Smith Resigns as Adelphi Head Softball Coach

Garden City, N.Y. - Paige Smith has resigned as head softball coach as announced by Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Robert E. Hartwell, effective on Monday, July 13. Smith spent five seasons in Adelphi University's dugout, book ending her stay with trips to the NCAA Division II East Regional.

Smith is stepping down as head softball coach to take over the reins of the softball program at Seton Hall University.

Over the past five seasons Smith has compiled a record of 169-104, including a program record 41 victories in 2008. She also guided Adelphi's transition from the East Coast Conference to the Northeast-10, helping the Panthers become a conference power in just three years, finishing second in the regular season standing this past spring.

"Paige has, for the past five years, kept the Adelphi softball program competing at the highest level, and she will continue her success at Seton Hall University beginning immediately!" Hartwell stated.

"We congratulate Paige on the success she has maintained in the Northeast-10, NCAA Division II Regional play, and no on her new position as head coach of the Seton Hall Pirates. I personally congratulate Seton Hall on their selection of Paige, who is ready to push their program to the highest level!"

Adelphi reached the post season in each of the Smith's five seasons on the bench, earning spots in the NCAA Division II East Regional in 2008 and 2012. Smith will leave Adelphi fourth on the all-time wins list with 169 wins and third in winning percentage at .619.

In all she produced 29 all-conference performers (16-East Coast Conference, 13-Northeast-10), including five this past season. Smith's players also earned a total of 13 all-region awards and a Daktronics All-America honor.

Adelphi also earned three straight Northeast-10 Team Academic Excellence awards under Smith's watch, boasting a GPA of 3.505 this past year.
