FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

First Elite 24 Award for Stonehill and Franklin Pierce in Indoor Track & Field.

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Stonehill's Evan Kennedy and Franklin Pierce's Marisa Carbone have earned the Northeast-10 Conference's Elite 24 Award in the sports of men's and women's indoor track & field, respectively, posting the highest grade-point averages among all student-athletes within their sport.

The Elite 24 Award recognizes the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA participating at the finals site at each NE10 Championship. No fall or winter championships were held in 2020-21, but the Elite 24 winners have been determined by comparing the GPA of all NE10 student-athletes on a sport-by-sport basis.

It is the first Elite 24 for Stonehill and Franklin Pierce in the sports of men's and women's indoor track & field. For the Skyhawks, it is their second Elite 24 this academic year (also Derek Ivey in football) and it is the league-best fifth for the Ravens (Carlos Ferrando Felis in men's soccer, Viridiana Vazquez Kloss in women's soccer, Riley Fenoff in men's cross country and Alena Masterson in women's cross country).

Kennedy, a junior distance runner, secured the Elite 24 honor with a 3.990 GPA in neuroscience. It is the second time Kennedy has won the NE10 Elite 24 Award, as he earned the prestigious distinction for outdoor track & field in the spring of 2020. In the most recent NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championship in 2020, he finished eighth in the 800 meter (2:06.76). Kennedy is a five-time member of the NE10 Academic Honor Roll.

Carbone, a senior runner, won the Elite 24 in women's indoor track & field with a 3.970 GPA in health sciences. A member of the 2020 NE10 Indoor Track & Field Academic All-Conference Team, Carbone is a seven-time recipient of NE10 Academic Honor Roll recognition. At the 2020 NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championship, she was part of the seventh-place 4x800 relay team (10:02) for the Ravens. She has also competed in the 600 meter, 800 meter, 1000 meter, mile and 3000 meter.

The league office will recognize Elite 24 Award winners for the remaining winter sports this week. For fall and winter winners, please see below.
