Ribeiro Highlights NE10 Men’s Indoor Track & Field Major Awards

AIC & SCSU Claim Four of Five Major Awards


MANSFIELD, Mass. – American International's Yvan Lopes Ribeiro swept all the field awards while Southern Connecticut and New Haven took home track awards as the Northeast-10 announced its Indoor Track & Field major award winners on Thursday. 

Yvan Lopes Ribeiro took home Field Athlete and Rookie of the Year honors, while New Haven's Jordany Dely was recognized as the Track Rookie of the Year. SCSU's Nigel Green claimed Track Athlete of the Year honors while John Wallin and his Owl staff was selected as the NE10 Men's Indoor Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year. 

Ribeiro won three individual NE10 Championships two weeks ago, claiming victories in the 60 meter hurdles, long jump and triple jump. He set new NE10 records in the hurdles and the long jump, with a time of 7.84 seconds and a leap of 7.63 meters. He also won the triple jump with a distance of 15.45 meters. The first-year indoor athlete qualified for the NCAA Championships in all three events and is ranked in the top-ten nationally in all three.

Green took home the NE10 Championship in the 200 meters with a time of 21.65 seconds and was second in the 60 meters with his time of 6.94 seconds. The senior earned All-Region honors in those two events, along with the 400 meters and as a part of SCSU's 4x400 relay and distance medley relay. He ranks in the top ten nationally in the 200m, 400m and both relay events, and will in all four at the NCAA Championships this weekend. 

Dely was a force at the NE10 Championships in helping New Haven take third as a team, its highest finish in program history. He placed third in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.27 seconds and his prelim time of 8.18 seconds was second in the NE10 this year. He also helped the Chargers take second in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:19.57 and was fifth in the high jump (1.86m). Dely earned All-Region honors in all three events, as well as the heptathlon.

John Wallin and his staff at Southern Connecticut claimed Coaching Staff of the Year honors for the fifth consecutive year. This year, the Owls won their fifth straight NE10 Indoor Title, scoring 225 overall points to edge AIC by 31 points. It was also the fourth highest score in NE10 indoor championship history.
