NE10 Baseball Teams of the Week: Bentley, Le Moyne, New Haven

Bentley, Le Moyne, New Haven

Each week for the remainder of the spring we will honor the seniors from two NE10 baseball programs as our teams of the week for each player's dedication to their program and teammates.

BENTLEY

Coach Bob DeFelice on his senior class - "We had six seniors and four graduate students return for this year's team, a total of ten players coming back from the year before. So we had pretty much the whole team return.  It was not only a veteran team, some of them had already played for three years. They also came off of their junior year with great success, winning, I think, 20 of their last 30 games.

We were looking forward to probably one of the best years that we've ever had here with a lot of quality players. One of our players, Ryan Berardino, was drafted. Max Troiani ended up being the third leading hitter down at Cape Cod. Not only did we have a lot of experience, we also had an exceptional amount of talent."

Season Recap

Bentley was off to a 5-9 start through 14 games prior to the spring's cancellation, playing all of its contests in Florida. After dropping their first four games, the Falcons bounced back with a 3-1 win over Stonehill on Feb. 28. Bentley finished the shortened season by winning three of four games – with the victories coming against Bridgeport and Bloomfield. Chris Hopkins and Max Troiani led the Falcons in batting average, hitting .362 and .358, respectively. The duo also combined for four homers and 24 RBI. Paul Frisoli started strong on the mound, recording a 2.66 ERA in 20.1 innings of work this season.

LE MOYNE

Coach Scott Cassidy on his senior class – "The 2020 senior class is one that will not be forgotten. It is a group of hardnosed baseball players that always played with a "team first" mentality. They have been an integral part of building the culture within this program for many to follow and build upon. They have certainly left their mark and will be missed by both their teammates and coaches alike."

Season Recap

The Dolphins were off to a solid start in 2020, going 9-7 through 16 games – tied for the most games played of any NE10 team in the shortened season. In their first two weekends of the season, the Dolphins were a combined 5-3 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., and in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Two weeks later, a victory over No. 8/13 Millersville provided a season highlight for Le Moyne. Among all players with at least 50 at-bats, Justin Tuey had a team-best .320 batting average. Nick Jacques was third on the team with 11 RBI.

NEW HAVEN

Coach Chris Celano on his senior class – "We couldn't have asked for a more dedicated and hardworking group. All six have been essential pieces to the success of our program and have been model student-athletes during their time at UNH."
