Top Three Seeds Advance while No. 5 Pace Secures Long Quarterfinal Upset

MANSFIELD, Mass. – No. 5 seed Pace provided an 11-9 upset over No. 4 Bentley while each of the top three seeds came out victorious in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship on Saturday.

Top seed Saint Anselm dispatched No. 9 Assumption 25-5, while No. 2 Le Moyne earned a 15-5 victory over No. 7 Franklin Pierce. No. 6 Southern N.H. kept it close but three seed Adelphi ultimately held off the Penmen. Semifinal action gets underway on Wednesday as the Panthers travel to the Dolphins and the Hawks host the Setters.

No. 1 Saint Anselm 25, No. 9 Assumption 10 – Box Score

Saint Anselm picked up a decisive 25-5 victory over Assumption on Saturday. The score was locked in at one just 2:36 into the game before Saint Anselm scored five straight to open up a 6-1 lead with Matt Ward scoring four of his team's six first-quarter goals. Assumption never threatened again after the opening few minutes of the contest as the Hawks would eventually extend their lead to 21-3 in the third quarter.

Ward extended his goal scoring streak to 16 games, potting four goals with a career-high four assists on Saturday. Classmate Ryan Richards scored four goals with an assist, logging a career-high two caused turnovers. Sophomore Jack Andrews scored three times and added two assists in the winning effort. Senior CJ Hart performed well in net for the Hawks, improving to 11-0 on the season by making seven saves on 10 shots.

Saint Anselm will now host Pace in the NE10 Semifinals on Wednesday.

No. 2 Le Moyne 15, No. 7 Franklin Pierce 5 – Box Score

Junior faceoff specialist Sam Kury went 18-for-20 to lead second seeded Le Moyne to a 15-5 victory over Franklin Pierce on Saturday. With the victory, the Dolphins advance to the NE10 semifinals for the 24th straight year. The Dolphins opened the game with the first nine goals, including five in the first quarter.

Le Moyne also cored the first five goals of the third quarter to take its largest lead of the game at 14-1. Franklin Pierce outscored the Dolphins 3-1 in the fourth for the ten-goal final. Redshirt junior Frank Delia registered six saves (against three goals) over 46:28 to earn his fourth win of the season. Four players had at least three points, led by Matt Hutchings and Zach Pierce with five apiece. Nate Arnold led the defense with three caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Defending NE10 Champion Le Moyne will host No. 3 seed Adelphi on Wednesday at 1 p.m. The Dolphins have won six straight against the Panthers dating back to the 2017 season.

No. 3 Adelphi 12, No. 6 Southern N.H. 9 - Box Score

Adelphi held Southern New Hampshire scoreless in the third quarter en route to a 12-9 victory in the NE10 quarterfinals Saturday afternoon. The scoreless third frame was largely in part due to freshman Kyle Cash, who made his collegiate debut and earned the victory by making nine saves. Offensively the team was led by Gordon Purdie, Jr. who scored four times and added two helpers for a game-high six points.

Southern New Hampshire got the scoring going in the opening frame, but Adelphi was quick to respond. Joseph Duchnowski then added his only goal in the next possession, taking advantage of a man-up situation to take a lead the hosts never relinquished for the remainder of the contest. The rest of the half was back-and-forth as the Panthers led just 5-4 at the half. Four consecutive goals by Adelphi in the third made it 9-3 and though SNHU outscored the Panthers 6-3 in the fourth it wasn't enough to complete the comeback.

Adelphi will travel to No. 2 Le Moyne for a 1 p.m. contest on Wednesday. The two teams met up in the 2019 NE10 Championship as the Dolphins won 11-9.

No. 5 Pace 11, No. 4 Bentley 9 – Box Score

Sparked by another clutch fourth quarter, Pace pulled out an 11-9 win at Bentley on Saturday night. Trailing by two goals heading into the final 15 minutes, the Setters scored the first four goals of the fourth quarter while finishing the game on a 5-1 run to secure the win. With Pace leading 10-9 in the final minute, junior goalkeeper Louis Ragusa came up with a clutch point blank save to preserve the victory. Following the stop, Jake Veres added an insurance goal with 34 seconds left.

Veres and Alan Singleton served as Pace's top scorers in the contest as they each tallied a hat trick of goals. The duo also combined for three assists. Ragusa's great efforts to help clinch the win were the culmination of a career-best 18 saves. He has now tallied at least 10 stops in nine contests this season, while ranking fourth in the NE10 in total stops. Daniel Lewis added three caused turnovers.
