SCSU Men & SNHU Women Lead After Day 1 of Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Owls & Penmen Lead After Day 1 of 2023 Outdoor Championships. 


MANCHESTER, N.H. – Following the first day of competition at the NE10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Mark A. Oullette Stadium on the campus of Southern New Hampshire, the Southern Connecticut Men hold a 22-point lead while the Southern New Hampshire women have a 26-point lead.  

The Owls have 88 points in first place, ahead of Franklin Pierce in second with 66 points. New Haven sits in third with 31, followed by Assumption (27) and AIC (25) to round out the top five teams at the end of Day 1.  

On the women's side, the Penmen have 80 points in first and are trailed by Adelphi with 54 in second. New Haven (33), Franklin Pierce (30.50) and Southern Connecticut (18.50) sit in the top five at the conclusion of the first day of events.   

SCSU men collected eight medals including three gold medals. Johnathan Volpe finished first in the 1500m and Jordan Davis won men's javelin for the third year in a row and set a new NE10 Championship record distance with his mark of 69.89m. SCSU took all top-three spots in the men's pole vault, led by Nathaniel Llanos and had second and third place finishes in the men's hammer throw. 

The other gold medalists for the men on the Day 1 were Connor Everdige (hammer throw), Wondu Summa (10,000m) and the 4x800 relay of Franklin Pierce and Khalil Chester of Adelphi in the long jump. Everidge won the weight throw with a 52.80m toss, Summa won the 10,000m with a time of 31:39.83 and the 4x800 quarter of Ryan Walker, Evan McNeice, Riley Fenoff and Ryan Outerbridge finished in 7:48.50. 

On the women's side, SNHU had three first place finishes with Ashley Corcoran in the 1500m (4:28.96), Kelsey Seamens in the 10,000m (38:09.43) and Tori Limone in javelin (35.70m). 

Adelphi took two gold medals on the first day starting with Kyria Moore in the hammer throw with a distance of 49.89m and the 4x800 relay of Lucia Kutner, Grace Minikel, Sumaira Mayan and Isabelle Marsh who finished in 9:33.08. Also taking gold on the first day were Elizabeth Jones of Franklin Pierce in pole vault with a clearance of 3.15m and Kristen Washington of New Haven in long jump with a leap of 5.78m.
