Skyhawks win fourth consecutive conference title

JAMESVILLE, N.Y. – Stonehill College won the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Cross Country Championship on Saturday morning at Jamesville Beach Park, posting a team score of 65 points to earn its fourth straight conference title and sixth in seven years.

Stonehill placed five runners in the top-20, headed by senior Caroline McBride in fifth place and junior Chelsea Bishop in sixth place.

Adelphi University finished second in the team standings with 80 points, followed by Southern Connecticut State University in third with 124 points.

American International College senior Jeptui Cherutich was the first-place finisher in the women's field of 159 runners, completing the 5K with a time of 18:23.2. The win was her third in as many years at the Northeast-10 Championship, and she was named the 2012 Northeast-10 Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year following her performance.

Bentley University sophomore Tara Dooley finished second overall with a time of 18:38.4, while So. Connecticut senior Courtney Dinnan was third at 18:44.0.

Merrimack College freshman Kerry Phelan was named the 2012 Northeast-10 Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Year after finishing 15th overall with a time of 19:24.3.

Stonehill head coach Karen Boen was named the 2012 Northeast-10 Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year following her team's victory.
