WOMEN'S ALL-DISTRICT TEAMS
Ten men, eight women receive prestigious CoSIDA honors
SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Eighteen
Northeast-10 Conference student-athletes have received 2013 Capital
One Academic All-District Track/Cross Country First Team honors, it
was announced on Thursday.
Ten Northeast-10 students were featured among the 11 men’s
selections, while eight of the 10 women’s honorees were from
the conference.
The All-District teams are released to recognize the
nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances
athletically and in the classroom.
Among the 10 men honored to the All-District Team, four were from
Stonehill College and two were from Bentley University.
From Stonehill, sophomore Daniel
Cormier has a 3.47 GPA as a Business major, while
junior George Georgaklis carries a 3.67
GPA as a Computer Engineering major. Junior Stephen
Leonard (3.52 GPA), a Biology major, was lauded on
the All-District team, as was sophomore Bryan
Wilcox (3.61), a Business major.
From Bentley, seniors John Drago (3.81)
and Sean Maguire (3.71) were honored.
Both student-athletes are Corporate Finance & Accounting
majors.
The Men’s All-District team also included American
International College sophomore Paul Fort
(3.86, Business Management), University of Massachusetts Lowell
junior Scott Boiko (3.38, Biology),
University of New Haven grad student David
Thomas (3.32, Business) and Southern Connecticut
State University junior A.J. Guerra
(3.41, Physics).
Fort’s 3.86 GPA was the highest among the 11 First Team
honorees.
Thomas last week earned All-America honors at the 2013 NCAA
Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the long jump, while
Guerra earned All-America status in the hammer throw.
Among those named to the Women’s All-District Team, Bentley
had three honorees in sophomore Tara
Dooley and seniors Caitlin
Fahey and Amy Varsell.
Dooley has a 3.85 GPA as an Accountancy major, while Fahey (3.64)
and Varsell (3.84) both are Corporate Finance & Accounting
majors.
Fahey and Varsell both competed at NCAAs last week as well, with
Varsell earning All-America status in the 1,500 meters.
American Int’l senior Starr
Nathan and sophomore Alexandria
Stasiuk were also lauded with matching 3.90 GPAs.
Nathan is a Communications major and Stasiuk is a Physical Therapy
major at American Int'l.
Stonehill also had a pair of selections in junior
Elizabeth LaRegina and senior
Caroline McBride. LaRegina is a
Psychology major with a 3.82 GPA, while McBride has a 3.61 GPA as
an American History major. McBride has also blogged
for the Northeast-10 and was featured in the conference’s ’60
Seconds With’ video feature earlier in the academic
year.
UMass Lowell junior Diamond Jones also
earned the Capital One recognition as a Civil Engineering major
with a 3.65 GPA.
The Northeast-10 is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that are committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in Conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
