Four men, three women receive prestigious Capital One recognition

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Seven Northeast-10 Conference student-athletes have been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Division II Men's and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, it was announced last week. The Capital One All-America teams are selected by the College Sports Information Sports Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Bentley University senior John Drago earned Men's First Team honors with a 3.81 grade point average as a Corporate Finance major. It marks Drago's second straight Capital One All-America honor, as the Avon, Conn. native was a Third Team selection a year ago.

Classmate Sean Maguire was a Third Team selection as a Corporate Finance & Accounting major carrying a 3.71 GPA. Drago and Maguire helped Bentley earn a spot in the 2012 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships after a second-place finish at the East Regional.

Two more Northeast-10 student-athletes received Third Team honors in University of Massachusetts Lowell junior Scott Boiko and American International College sophomore Paul Fort. Boiko, who was also a Third Team pick in 2012, is a Biology major with a 3.38 GPA and Fort, who hails from St. Doulchard, France, owns a 3.86 GPA as a Business Management major.

Boiko captured All-America honors in the distance medley relay at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship, while Fort earned All-America honors at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships as a member of the Yellow Jackets' fourth-place distance medley relay team.

On the women's teams, Bentley senior Amy Varsell (pictured) earned First Team accolades for the second straight year. She has a 3.84 GPA as a Corporate Finance & Accounting major and plans to return to the Falcons next year as a grad student. Classmate Caitlin Fahey earned Third Team honors as a Corporate Finance & Accounting major with a 3.64 GPA.

Varsell had a seventh-place finish in the 1500 meters during the NCAA Division II Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Pueblo, Colo., while Fahey qualified for both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships this past season.

American Int'l senior Starr Nathan earned Second Team recognition as a Communications major with a 3.90 GPA. She too participated at the NCAA Championships, earning All-America honors in the long jump at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships, placing fifth with a school-record leap of 6.01 meters.
