Overtime Upsets Reign in NE10 Men's Soccer Quarterfinals

Adelphi, Franklin Pierce, Le Moyne, SNHU Advance to NE10 Semifinals


MANSFIELD, Mass. – Two of the four Northeast-10 Quarterfinal matchups came down to penalty kicks, and one was decided by double overtime. The lone multi-goal victory was by top seed Franklin Pierce who took down eighth seeded Bentley by an 8-0 margin in the final game of the evening. 

Le Moyne started the quarterfinal round with a double-overtime 3-2 victory at No. 2 Southern Connecticut. All four goals of regulation were scored in the second half, sending the game to extra minutes. No. 4 Southern New Hampshire then held off No. 5 Saint Rose in a penatly shootout after a 1-1 tie sent the game into a scorelss overtime. SNHU won in PKs, 5-3. No. 6 Adelphi then defeated No. 3 Assumption in PK's during the third game of the evening, 4-3. Semifinal action gets underway on Wednesday as Le Moyne travels to Adelphi and SNHU plays at Franklin Pierce.


No. 7 Le Moyne 3, No. 2 Southern Connecticut  2 (2 OT) – Box Score 

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Noah Sperduto scored his second goal of the season early in the second half to open the game's scoring, then freshman Cameron Stuart added to his impressive season goal tally in the 65th minute to give Le Moyne a promising 2-0 advantage.

After the Owls were able to claw their way back into the game and send it to overtime with two second-half goals of their own, Jack Goodrich earned a penalty kick then scored it himself to put the 'Phins on top for good in the first overtime period.


No. 4 Southern New Hampshire 1, No. 5 Saint Rose  1 (5-3 PK's) – Box Score

HOOKSETT, N.H. – SNHU scored the first goal of the game in the 59th minute. Perez cornered a ball to Saez, who centered in front for the goal by Makaj, his third goal of the season.

The Golden Knights found the equalizer at 76:11. Harry Soederlind banged a shot off the crossbar that rebounded perfectly for a blast by Andrew Lule to make it 1-1.

SNHU won in penalty kicks, converting all five attempts – Herrmann, Schubitidze, Makaj, Saez made the first four and graduate student Mikel Cortazar hit the clincher.  Saint Rose had missed on the first attempt before converting the next three.


No. 6 Adelphi 2, No. 3 Assumption 2 (4-3 PK's) – Box Score

WORCESTER, Mass. – A miss by Benji Jones on the first penalty of the shootout competition put the Panthers in an early hole, as Assumption converted on its first two tries.

That miss was Adelphi's only of the night. Once Alessio Consoli leveled the score of the shootout at 2-2, Daniel De La Heras came up with a crucial right-handed save to keep it tied.

Matteo Lazzarini and Patrick Wilson both converted from the spot to keep the pressure on the Greyhounds. Needing to score to keep it going, Hunter LePage put Assumption's last try off the left post.


No. 1 Franklin Pierce 7, No. 8 Bentley 0 - Box Score

RINDGE, N.H. - The Ravens secured a quick 1-0 lead in the opening 15 minutes and never looked back as they snagged to a 7-0 victory over the eighth seeded Bentley on Saturday evening.

Franklin Pierce's Miguel Secades Rodrigues opened up the scoring in the 12th minute and then FPU added another goal in the 18th minute off the foot of Braudilio Rodrigues for 2-0 lead. The Ravens netted two more in the first half before exploding for three more in the second half.

The scoring was shared among the Ravens' offense, as seven players contributed with one goal each. The top seed held the Falcons to just two shots on the match.

* In the mini-conference between Assumption, Saint Rose & SNHU, Assumption earned the #3 seed based on a 2-0 record within the mini-conference. Saint Rose & SNHU were both 0-1-1 within the mini-conference and played to a tie in their regular season contest. When looking at results vs. common opponents, both teams have the same record (5-3-3). When looking at results vs. the highest seeded teams, both lost to Franklin Pierce and both beat Adelphi. SNHU eared the #4 seed based on a win vs. SCSU; Saint Rose played to a tie against SCSU.

** Le Moyne earned the #7 seed based on their head-to-head win over Bentley during the regular season.

*Postseason admission in all rounds of NE10 fall championships will be $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and children. Current NE10 students, with valid ID, will be admitted free of charge.
