Two-day event gets underway Friday afternoon at Stonehill
SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Following a
vote among the league’s head coaches, the Southern
Connecticut State University men and Stonehill College women have
been tabbed the favorites entering the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference
Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which gets underway Friday
at Stonehill’s W.B. Mason Stadium in Easton, Mass. before
concluding on Saturday.
So. Connecticut received nine first-place votes and 81 points to
sit atop the men’s championship coaches’ poll, while
the host Skyhawks garnered seven first-place tallies and 79 points
to take the top spot in the women’s poll. Both programs won
the respective titles at the 2014 Northeast-10 Indoor Championships
back in February.

In the men’s poll, Stonehill was second to the Owls with 72
points, followed by American International College with 66 points
and Adelphi University and Franklin Pierce University with 50
points apiece.
In the women’s poll, So. Connecticut earned two first-place
nods and 73 points for second place, while the University of New
Haven was third with 67 points. Merrimack College and American
Int’l rounded out the top-five with 54 and 50 points,
respectively.
The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division
II colleges and universities located in New England and New York
that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic
opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year,
4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships
in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the
country in terms of sport sponsorship. Leading the way in the
classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10
is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it
provides student-athletes.
