EASTON, Mass. – Following the same pattern from this year's indoor event, the Southern Connecticut State University men and the Stonehill College women claimed team titles Saturday afternoon as the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships concluded with Day Two action at W.B. Mason Stadium on the campus of Stonehill.
For the women, the University of New Haven, which finished third
in the team standings behind Stonehill and So. Connecticut, brought
home the two major individual awards. Chargers junior
Ada Udaya was named the Women’s
Championship Most Outstanding Track Performer and junior
teammate Briana Conyers earned the
Women’s Championship Most Outstanding Field Performer
award.
Udaya took the women’s 100 meter finals with a time of 11.50
seconds, which set a new Northeast-10 record and was good for an
NCAA automatic qualifying time. She also won the 200 meters in
23.96 seconds, which met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard.
She was also part of the Northeast-10 record-setting 4x400 meter
relay team (3:43.72).
Conyers set a new Northeast-10 record in the women’s
heptathlon (4308) and also finished first in the women’s
triple jump.
The Owls men also took home the two major individual awards, as
senior Logan Sharpe received
Men’s Championship Most Outstanding Field Performer honors
and junior Michael Cameron was named
the Men’s Championship Most Outstanding Field Performer.
Sharpe finished first in both the men’s 400 meters (47.79)
and 400 meter hurdles (52.88), while Cameron took first in both the
men’s discus (47.23m) and men’s shot put (17.71m), the
second of which set a new Northeast-10 record.
The champion Skyhawks got winning efforts from junior
Sarah Wilson in the 800 meters, senior
Elizabeth LaRegina in the 1500 meters,
and a new Northeast-10 record from senior Chelsea
Bishop in the 10000 meters with a time of
35:58.17.
Merrimack College freshman Carly
Muscaro took the women’s 400 meter dash
with a time of 54.33, which set the new Northeast-10 record and met
the provisional time.
So. Connecticut took the women’s 4x100 relay with a time of
46.40 seconds, also good for a new Northeast-10 record.
For the men, Franklin Pierce University freshman Dage
Minors set a new Northeast-10 record in the
men’s 800 meters with a time of 1:51.65. It also met the NCAA
provisional standard.
Stonehill senior Xavier Dixon set the
new conference mark in the men’s 110 meter hurdles prelims
with an NCAA provisional time of 14.26 seconds.
So. Connecticut junior Michael Lee was
first in the men’s triple jump with a leap of 15.07 meters,
which set the new Northeast-10 record.
Sophomore teammate Tresley Dupont broke
the old conference mark in the men’s hammer throw
(58.49m).
American International College senior Shane
Duplice was first in the men’s javelin with a
record-setting conference heave of 66.00 meters.
The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division
II colleges and universities located in New England and New York
that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic
opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year,
4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships
in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the
country in terms of sport sponsorship. Leading the way in the
