FALMOUTH, Mass. – The College of Saint Rose’s Caitlin Brauer has been named the 2013 Northeast-10 Conference Woman of the Year, it was announced Monday night at the conference’s yearend banquet on Cape Cod.

Brauer, a women’s swimming & diving student-athlete with the Golden Knights, also received one of three Northeast-10 Outstanding Scholar-Athlete awards handed out on Monday night.

The conference’s Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) Council chooses the annual Woman of the Year award.

Brauer, a Clifton Park, N.Y. native, will now be forwarded to the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics, which manages the nomination process and selection for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

“Above all, I’ve been able to balance the demands of academics because I was able to enjoy my passion for athletics,” said Brauer. “With the help of my teammates, professors and coaches, I also learned that modesty is a key driver of success. Success is not measured by how much someone has accomplished, but rather how gracefully they act when they achieve those accomplishments.”

In the classroom, Brauer graduated from Saint Rose with a 3.75 grade-point average as an Accountancy major, and recently completed her MBA in just four years. The seven-time Dean’s List recipient also received the 2012-13 Northeast-10 Sport Excellence Award in her sport and is a three-time Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference honoree. She also garnered Capital One District 1 Academic All-America honors from CoSIDA in 2011-12 and is a three-time CSCAA Scholar All-American.

In the pool, the team captain is a four-time NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships qualifier and two-time All-America selection in the 400 individual medley. She also earned three Honorable Mention All-America performances at the 2011 NCAA Championship and a fourth at this year’s championship.  Brauer also became the first female swimmer to represent Saint Rose at NCAAs.

A Delta Mu Delta Honor Society member and treasurer, Brauer has also participated in campus activities and community programs, including the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Piranhas Swim Club (2010-12), the Friday Knights Youth Program (2009-10) and Relay for Life (2009-13).

She was also chosen as student speaker for the new Huether School of Business Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on campus this past fall.

Brauer is the second Saint Rose female student-athlete in as many years to win the conference’s prestigious Woman of the Year award, as Christina Cuffari of the Golden Knights’ women’s soccer team received the honor last June in Portsmouth, N.H.

The Northeast-10 is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that are committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in Conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
