Owls men and women both selected to
repeat at three-day conference championship meet

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut State University men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs have both been selected to win this year’s Northeast-10 Conference Championship, as voted upon by the conference’s head coaches. 

The 2013 Northeast-10 Swimming & Diving Championship gets underway on the campus of So. Connecticut at Hutchinson Natatorium this Thursday before concluding on Saturday night. Updated results will be provided at northeast10.org throughout the three-day event, and also be sure to follow the Northeast-10 on Twitter (@TheNortheast10) for all the news and highlights. 

Under the direction of head coach Tim Quill, the Owls men’s team will be seeking its ninth conference title in 10 years, while the women’s program, led by 2012 NCAA Division II Women's Swimmer of the Year Amanda Thomas (pictured), looks for its 10th consecutive Northeast-10 crown. 

In the men’s pre-championship poll, So. Connecticut received 36 points and six first-place votes, while The College of Saint Rose finished in second with 30 points and one first-place vote.

Bentley University placed third with 25 points, followed by Pace University with 20 points and Le Moyne College with 18 points. Adelphi University and Saint Michael’s College rounded out the coaches’ poll with 12 and six points, respectively.

In the women’s coaches’ poll, So. Connecticut received 49 points and seven first-place votes to take the top spot. Bentley received 39 points to narrowly edge Assumption College for the second position, as Assumption received 37 points and one first-place vote. Saint Rose was chosen third with 34 points.

Rounding out the poll was Pace with 24 points, Le Moyne with 18 points, and Adelphi and Saint Michael’s in a tie for seventh with 10 points apiece.

An adult all-day ticket is $10 for this week's championship. Per session, tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for both youths (under 18) and seniors, while the cost is $1 for students of Northeast-10 institutions. Heat sheets are also available for $1.

The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country.
