Waltham, Mass. – Bentley University
swimmers Amanda Le and Nadine
Edwards (pictured) have both been recognized by the
College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) with
selection as honorable mention selections for the 2012 Division II
Scholar All-America team.
Student-athletes earn honorable mention Scholar All America
recognition by achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher,
for the semester or cumulative average, and earning a
“B” time standard, but not qualifying for the NCAA
championships.
Le, a sophomore, is majoring in corporate finance and accounting
and has earned President’s List recognition during each of
her three semesters at Bentley. Edwards, a freshman who has yet to
declare a major, is coming off a strong spring semester that saw
her make the Dean’s List.
Le set a school record in the 200 breaststroke during the New
England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association
championships in February, registering a winning time of
2:22.61.
Edwards had an outstanding rookie year, one that saw her set
school records in the 500, 1000 and 1650 freestyle events and
participate on three school-record setting relay teams. She broke
the 500 standard four times and won seven golds during the NEISDA
Championships (four relay, three individual).
The Bentley men’s and women’s swimming and diving
teams both received Scholar All-America Team Awards from the CSCAA
for their academic performance during the spring semester. The
Falcons, coached by Mary Kay Samko, were one of only 16 Division II
programs across the country to have both teams recognized.
The women’s team had a 3.25 grade point average during the
spring, and the men’s team turned in a 3.06.
Both Bentley teams excelled in the pool as well as in the
classroom this past year. The women’s squad had an 8-1 dual
record, finished second in the Northeast-10 Championships and
repeated as NESIDA titlists. The men’s team, after a 7-2 dual
record, also captured the NEISDA championship and finished third in
the Northeast-10’s.
The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 16 NCAA Division
II colleges and universities located in New England and New York
that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic
opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year,
4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships
in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the
country. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within
the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive
program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
