Assumption Women & Bentley Men Both Picked to Repeat in NE10 Coaches’ Poll

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Reigning NE10 Champions Assumption women's swimming & diving and Bentley men's swimming & diving have been selected to finish first in their respective NE10 Coaches' Polls, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon. 

The 2020 NE10 Swimming & Diving Championships begin on Thursday evening at the WPI Sports & Recreation Center on the campus of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, with the Greyhounds and Falcons selected as favorites for the second consecutive season. The continue through until Sunday evening, with prelims in the morning and then finals beginning each evening at 6 p.m. 

Assumption earned 48 points and six of eight first place votes to edge out the Bentley women, who had the remaining two first place votes and 43 total points. The Greyhounds have won four of the past six NE10 Titles, including the 2019 Championship as they used an impressive final two days of competition to seal the victory. The Falcons claimed second a year ago, losing by just 125 points, to earn the program's first runner-up finish since 2015.
Southern Connecticut was selected third with 38 points, while Le Moyne (25) and Saint Rose (23) rounded out the top six. Adelphi (14) and Saint Michael's (7), finished seventh and eighth in the poll.

On the men's side, Bentley secured six first place votes and 36 total points as the Falcons seek their third NE10 Title in the last four seasons. Southern Connecticut, who has won seven of the last nine conference championships, finished with 31 points and the final first place tally. Last year, Bentley beat the Owls by over 100 points, 993-890.5, though SCSU was still 375 points ahead of third-place finisher Pace. 

This year the Setters were actually picked fourth with 17 points, while Le Moyne jumped ahead of them to earn third with 24 points. Saint Rose (16), Saint Michael's (9) and Adelphi (8) rounded out the field. 

The 2020 NE10 Championships get underway on Thursday evening with the 800-yard freestyle, beginning at 6:00 pm.
