UPDATED: Southern Women & Bentley Men In First Entering Final Day of NE10 Championships

SATURDAY RESULTS | CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption women outscored Southern Connecticut on Saturday evening but the Owls secured a pair of victories in the 'A' and 'B' finals of the 200 medley relay to lead by 7.5 points, 591-583.5.On the men's side, Bentley continued to extend its edge, and with 577.5 points leads by more than 150 points. 

The SCSU men are in second with 414.5 points, while Le Moyne has a slight edge over Pace for third, 278-237. On the women's side, Bentley is in third with 489.5 points, nearly two hundred ahead of fourth place Pace. 

WOMEN'S RECAP 

Bentley took two of the top three spots in the 1-meter diving competition, led by freshman Mary Huminski with her score of 432.70 points and followed by Caroline Logozzo with 411.20. 

SCSU captured three of the top five spots in the 200 IM, led by Erin Leirey. Annie Keppel-Palmer of Pace took third. In the 100 Fly, the Owls' Avery Fornaciari won by nearly two seconds with her time of 55.91 over Assumption's Natalia Kaczor who finished in 57.52. 

Lucy Slowe led a 1-2 finish for Bentley in the 200 free with her time of 1:53.18, though Assumption claimed spots 4, 6 & 7 to earn valuable points. The Greyhounds' Abby Holmes and Isabelle Roberts went first and third in the 100 breaststroke, with Gabrialla Ficano earning second. Holmes' time of 1:03.43 set a new NE10 record, breaking the previous mark set in 2012. 

SCSU's Morgan Fernald earned a win in the 100 back with her time of 57.73, just .06 ahead of Colleen Quaglia from Saint Rose and nearly half a second in front of Mackenzie Day. 

In the final event of the night, Southern claimed the A & B relay titles in the 200 medley relay, edging out Assumption in each race. In the A relay their time of 1:45.23 was nearly a full second faster to take back the lead from the Greyhounds.

MEN'S RECAP  

Bentley opened Friday evening by taking gold and silver in the 400 IM, led by freshman Anthony Vizental with his time of 4:02.04, two seconds ahead of teammate Michael Motisi. 

The Owls came away with a victory in the 100 Fly as Leo Laporte set a new NE10 record with his time of 48.27, one second ahead of Bentley's Paul Homorodean who was second in 49.57 and St. Rose's CJ Nicholas in third. 

Bentley's Mark Zoda won the 200 free with a time of 1:41.76, just beating out Saint Rose's Aleksander Stosik in 1:41.87 and Chandler Tucker of SCSU in 1:41.95. Homorodean and Zach Papsco went 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke, finishing with times of 56.31 and 56.71. 

In the 100 back, Pace's Filip Turecky claimed the NE10 Title with his time of 51.59 to take down Connor Hopkins (51.86). SCSU finished the evening with a victory in the 200 medley relay with its time of 1:33.30 to edge Saint Rose who was second in 1:34.17 and Bentley claimed third in 1:34.26.
