Southern Connecticut Women & Bentley Men Lead NE10 Swimming & Diving Championships

THURSDAY RESULTS

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Northeast 10 Conference Swimming and Diving Championships began on Thursday on the campus of WPI, and the Bentley Falcons took an early lead on the men's side, while the Southern Connecticut women took control of first. Three days remain, with prelims on Friday. Full results can be found in the link above. 

The Falcons have 96 points, 25 ahead of second place Southern Connecticut (71), while Le Moyne has 54 and Pace rounded out the top four with 37. On the women's side, SCSU totaled 106 points, 16 ahead of Bentley who has 90. Assumption is in third with 84 while Le Moyne has 59 to sit in fourth. 

WOMEN'S RECAP

The Owls jumped out to an impressive start when Southern's "B" team of Lauren Spencer, Olivia Strelevitz, Maddie Dean and Nicole Cislo won their heat with a time of 7:46.85 and picked up 18 points in the process. It was Southern's "A" team of Avery Fornaciari, Alina Tucker, Megan Garner and Erin Leirey that placed second overall for the Silver medal with a program-record time of 7:38.91. The mark topped the Owls' previous best time of 7:30.71 set by Garner, Tucker, Katie Crochet and Syndey Fromkin in 2018. 

The 1,000 Freestyle event was littered with Owls among the leaders as Southern grabbed three of the top four spots. Faith Littleton finished second overall with a time of 10:30.08, followed by Rebekah Lockery, who won her heat, in third at 10:32.63 and Jordan Thompson in fourth at 10:35.56. Emily Darroch was 11th with a time of 10:58.01. 

MEN'S RECAP 

The Bentley men's team repeated as 800 free relay champs, winning by 16.7 seconds over Southern Connecticut with a time of 6:52.33. A member of every class was represented with sophomore Mark Zoda swimming the anchor leg. Freshman Anthony Vizental led off and the quartet also included senior Jarod Yoshihara and junior Clayton Bennice. 

Bentley had three of the top five finishers in the men's 1,000 free with Dan Sausto's 9:36.44 producing his fourth career gold medal. Freshman Michael Motisi earned the bronze (9:42.22) and junior Tanner Fales finished fifth in 10:03.43.
