Three Swimmers & Six Divers Qualify for NCAA DII Championships

MANSFIELD, Mass. – The NE10 had three swimmers qualify for the 2020 NCAA Division II Men's & Women's Swimming Championships, while six divers were selected to participate in the NCAA Division II Diving Qualification Meet, as announced by the NCAA on Tuesday evening. The NCAA Championships will be held March 11-14 in Geneva, Ohio. 

Southern Connecticut's Leo LaPorte qualified In the 200 yard butterfly, marking the third consecutive year he has reached the NCAA Championships. He won gold in the event at the NE10 Championships and on Feb. 22 swam a 1:46.81 to move into the top-ten nationally. 

The Owls' Avery Fornaciari also qualified in the 200 yard butterfly and will be making her first trip to the NCAA Championships. The senior qualified with her gold medal time of 2:03.31 in the NE10 Championship earlier this month. Saint Rose's Colleen Quaglia also was selected in the 200 butterfly after finishing second at the NE10 Championships with her time of 2:04.41. Last year the junior qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 500 yard freestyle. 

The NE10 had six divers earn a spot in the NCAA Diving Qualification Meet, which takes a day before the start of the NCAA Championships at the SPIRE Institute Aquatics Center in Cleveland, Ohio. The top 22 divers from each gender will advance to the NCAA Championships which begin the following day. 

SCSU's Andrew Buehler and Pace's Patrick Dwyer are the lone male representatives. Buehler won both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions at the NE10 Championships with his scores of 498.00 and 528.95 while Dwyer took second in the 3-meter and third in the 1-meter.

Bentley had three women qualify, led by NE10 Champion Mary Huminski who won both the 1-meter and 3-meter Titles this year with scores of 432.70 and 387.65. Teammates Caroline Logozzo and Ryann Driscoll also qualified, along with Adelphi freshman Skyler Nenadich
