Starting in 2019, the Assumption University student-athletes decorate their cars and fill them with candy, drinks, and snacks for kids from the Worcester area to trick or treat in the Plourde Recreation parking lot. The Greyhounds started this tradition to give back to their Team IMPACT teammates and now includes the Best Buddies program, along with the local community members.

"We are extremely proud of our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and all the student-athletes who helped host a wonderful Trunk-or-Treat event," stated Assumption Athletic Director Eric Gobiel. "They took a tremendous amount of pride and initiative in planning and executing this event and provided a very safe, positive, and memorable experience for all who participated. They brought great energy throughout the night and did a wonderful job representing the University."

"This year, SAAC and teams at Assumption set up the largest, to date, Trunk-or-Treat on Assumption's campus," stated Amy VanRyn, the National Director of Team Impact. "Led by the Assumption SAAC, it was a fantastic way for athletes across Worcester to come together to provide a fun night for their Team IMPACT families!

Team IMPACT's unique multiyear program matches children facing serious illness and disability with college athletic teams nationwide. Their mission is to guide children and teams alike in a mutually beneficial relationship of belonging, empowerment, and resilience.

Best Buddies International is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
