South Easton, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference has announced its Academic All-Conference teams for the 2011-2012 winter athletic season. 72 student-athletes from the seven winter sports sponsored by the Northeast-10; men's and women's basketball, ice hockey, men's and women's swimming and diving, and men's and women's indoor track and field were recognized for their outstanding achievements in the classroom and on the playing field.

The 72 student-athletes that were recognized represents an increase of seven more then were recognized during the winter campaign a year ago.

To be eligible for selection to the Northeast-10 Conference Academic All-Conference Teams, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and 3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution.

The Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference teams are chosen by a vote of a committee of athletic administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FAR).

Among the student-athletes that were named to this prestigious list is Bentley University's Lauren Battista, who was named the 2011-12 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Year, as well as an Academic All-American. Battista helped lead the Falcons to the Final Four this season.

Southern Connecticut State University led all schools with fifteen student-athletes recognized, followed by Bentley, which had eleven honorees on the Winter 2011-2012 Academic All Conference Teams. Saint Michael's College and Stonehill College tied for third, with each school having eight student-athletes recognized.

Fifteen member institutions had at least one student-athlete garner the award, with thirteen schools placing at least two on the Academic All-Conference Teams.

By sport, women's indoor track and field led the way with 17 academic all-conference student-athletes honored, followed by women's swimming and diving, which had 14 student-athletes tabbed. Men's indoor track and field checked in with the third-most selections, as there were 11 student-athletes recognized.

Of the 72 student-athletes named to the 2011-2012 Winter Academic All-Conference Teams, 30 are being recognized for the second time, with seven athletes being named to the Academic All-Conference team in their respective sport for the third time in their career.
