Northeast-10 to Sponsor Inaugural Women in Athletics Seminar

South Easton, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference and SWA
Council announce the inaugural Women in Athletics Seminar, which
will take place February 2 at Bentley College.
The intent of the seminar is to identify current female
student-athletes in the Northeast-10 Conference, who are interested
in a possible career in athletics. The seminar will offer them the
opportunity to interact with various female collegiate athletic
professionals within the Northeast-10 who will share their
perspectives and educate the group about the opportunities
available to them.
Among those presenting are Pat Nicol, Athletic Director at
Southern Connecticut State University, Joan Lehoullier, Senior
Associate Athletic Director/SWA at UMass Lowell, Merrimack College
Sports Information Director Lisa Cascio, Northeast-10 Women’s
Basketball Official Joanne Aldrich, and Director of Sports Medicine
at Merrimack, Birgid Hopkins.
Also speaking is Bentley’s volleyball head coach Sandy
Hoffman and UMass Lowell’s field hockey head coach Shannon
Hlebichuk.
Keynote speaker Kathy DeBoer, Executive Director of the American
Volleyball Coaches Associations, will highlight the event. DeBoer
is a nationally known public speaker on the impact of gender on
competitive behavior. She also does popular programs on motivation,
teamwork and 21st century leadership. She has written extensively
on issues of competition, gender, coaching, and intercollegiate
athletics.
The Northeast-10 is one of the largest and is the most diverse
NCAA Division II playing conference in the nation. It sponsors 23
championship sports including baseball, men’s basketball,
women’s basketball, men’s cross country, women’s
cross country, football, field hockey, men’s golf,
men’s ice hockey, men’s lacrosse, women’s
lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s
indoor track and field, women’s indoor track and field,
men’s outdoor track and field, women’s outdoor track
and field, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, softball,
women’s volleyball, men’s swimming and diving, and
women’s swimming and diving
Full Members of the Northeast-10 include American International
College, Assumption College, Bentley College, Bryant University,
Franklin Pierce, Le Moyne College, The University of Massachusetts
Lowell, Merrimack College, Pace University, Saint Anselm College,
Saint Michael’s College, The College of Saint Rose, Southern
Connecticut State University, Southern New Hampshire University,
and Stonehill College.
