Northeast-10 to Induct Six New Hall of Fame Members at Third Annual Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Ceremony

South Easton, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference will
induct six new members into its Hall of Fame including five
student-athletes and one coach at the third annual Hall of Fame
Induction and Awards Ceremony on Monday, June 2 at the Colonnade
Hotel in Boston, Mass. Wendi Nix of ESPN Inc., a Boston based
bureau reporter for ESPN will be the master of ceremonies.
The former student-athletes being inducted include Jill (Croft)
Paige ’02 (Track & Field) of the University of
Massachusetts Lowell, Kim (Cummings) Singh ’96 (Basketball)
of Bentley College, Kavin Gailliard ’99 (Football) of
American International College, Jim Ferrer ’89 (Basketball)
from Bentley and Ann McInerney ’89 (Basketball/Softball) from
Assumption College. The Northeast-10 will also induct current
athletic director of Saint Anselm College and former men’s
soccer coach Ed Cannon.
In addition to the Hall of Fame Inductees, the Northeast-10 will
recognize the late Bob Bellizzi, the long-time baseball coach at
the College of Saint Rose, present this year’s
President’s Cup winner, the Bulldogs of Bryant University,
and honor the 2007-2008 Northeast-10 Male and Female Scholar
Athletes of the Year; Saint Rose’s Steve Dagostino and Le
Moyne’s Alison Lesher. Lesher will also be honored as the
NCAA Woman of the Year Conference Nominee. Finally, the 2007-2008
David R. Brunk Institution of the Year Award will be presented to
this year’s recipient, Stonehill College.
Croft-Paige was named the Female Athlete of the Year in 2001-02
and earned All-American status in 2001 (indoor high jump, long jump
and outdoor long jump) as well as in 2002 (indoor long jump and
indoor 60-meter dash).
During her career at Bentley, Cummings-Singh helped lead the
Falcons to a 105-21 record, four NCAA Division II tournament berths
and two NCAA Division II Elite Eight appearances. She compiled
1,701 career points and 777 rebounds.
Gailliard amassed 6,523 career rushing yards while at American
International, which ranks him seventh all time in NCAA history
(all divisions). The 1999 Harlon Hill Trophy runner-up also scored
68 career touchdowns while at American International.
Ferrer was named the Northeast-10 Player of the Year in 1988-1989
and became the first player to lead the conference in both scoring
and assists, averaging 21.6 points and 10 assists per game. He
currently still owns Bentley records for career assist average,
career minutes per game and three-point percentage; points,
assists, assists average, field goals attempted and field goals
made in a season.
McInerney still ranks at the top of the Assumption scoring list
with 1, 406 career points and is third all-time in rebounds with 1,
076. The former Northeast-10 Player of the Year (1989) in
basketball, McInerney was also an all-conference softball player
for the Greyhounds. She finished with a career batting average of
.308 with 128 hits.
Cannon was named the head coach of the Saint Anselm men’s
soccer team in 1975. He coached the Hawks to 12 Northeast-10
titles; six regular season and six championships. In addition he
helped lead Saint Anselm to back-to-back ECAC Division II
Championships in 1998 and 1999. The six time NE-10 coach of the
Year finished with a career record of 272-204-41 (.566). While part
of the Northeast-10, Cannon was 134-65-13 overall and had an
80-29-7 mark in NE-10 regular season play.
Sponsoring 23 championship sports and 15 full-time members, the
Northeast-10 is the second largest NCAA Division II athletic
conference in the nation and sponsors the most championships of any
Division II conference.
