Burlington, Vt. – Stonehill College has claimed the 2009-2010 Northeast-10 Presidents' Cup as announced by the Northeast-10 Conference Monday evening at the conference's end of the year awards banquet in Burlington, Vt.
Stonehill registered 186.5 points to win the Presidents' Cup for the first time since the 2005-2006 academic year. This marks the second time the Skyhawks have coveted the cup and the sixth straight year that they have finished in the top three. Last year, Stonehill finished second behind Bentley University.
"Congratulations to the student-athletes, coaches and administrators at Stonehill College on their outstanding accomplishment of capturing the Presidents' Cup this year," said Julie Ruppert, Northeast-10 Commissioner. "In a 16-team Conference as deep and competitive as the NE-10, the success necessary to earn this honor requires tremendous dedication and commitment from the entire campus community and all of Stonehill should share in the celebration of this accomplishment. Clearly the Stonehill Skyhawks are living up to the ideals of Division II by providing high-level athletics competition and balancing that with notable academic achievements in the classroom."
Stonehill had consistent success throughout the 2009-2010 academic year, finishing in the top five in 15 sports (Baseball, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country, Field Hockey, Football, Ice Hockey, Men's Indoor Track & Field, Women's Indoor Track & Field, Women's Lacrosse, Men's Tennis, Women's Tennis, Men's Outdoor Track & Field and Women's Outdoor Track & Field).
The Skyhawks claimed the Northeast-10 Regular Season Titles in the sports of men's basketball and field hockey, while winning championships in the sports of baseball, men's cross country and women's cross country.

"Our coaches and staff have worked tirelessly this year to provide our student-athletes with opportunities to succeed and our student-athletes have excelled in those opportunities as individuals and teams in the name of Stonehill College. I would also like to offer my thanks to our leadership at Stonehill – (President) Fr. Mark Cregan, C.S.C., (Vice President for Student Affairs) Fr. John Denning and (Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation) Paula Sullivan for their visionary leadership and support which allows our Skyhawk student-athletes to soar so high."
Bentley, last year's Presidents' Cup recipient, finished second overall in the standings after collecting 178.5 points. The Falcons won a share of the regular season title in football along with winning the regular season title outright in men's tennis. Bentley also took home championship hardware in field hockey and men's tennis. Adelphi University earned 165.5 points to finish third in the Presidents' Cup standings just ahead of Southern Connecticut State University with 155.5 points. The University of Massachusetts Lowell rounds out the top five with 143 points.
The rest of the field includes in order, Merrimack College (129.5), American International College (119), Le Moyne College (116), the University of New Haven (112.5), the College of Saint Rose (105.5), Franklin Pierce University (97), Southern New Hampshire University (96.5), Assumption College (96), Saint Anselm College (88), Pace University (75.5) and Saint Michael's College (68.5).
The Presidents' Cup is presented annually to signify overall athletic excellence in the Northeast-10 Conference and is awarded to the institution that compiles the most points based on the placement at the conclusion of the regular season of each of its programs which compete in league championships. Points for men's and women's cross country, men's and women's swimming & diving, men's and women's indoor and outdoor track & field and men's golf are awarded based on placement in respective conference championships.
With 16 member institutions the Northeast-10 shares the distinction of being the largest Division II conference in the country along with the PSAC and WVIAC. Its 23 championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500 student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II conference.
