Northeast-10 Player of the Week
Kevin Renaud, Franklin Pierce (Sr., OF, Southbridge, Mass.) -
Earned Most Outstanding Player honors at the NCAA Division II
Northeast Regional Championships for the second-straight year,
leading Franklin Pierce to its third-straight regional title. Hit
.522 (12-for-23) with seven runs scored, two doubles, five home
runs and 15 RBI. Slugged 1.261 and posted a .538 on-base percentage
for the week to go with a stolen base. Ten of his 15 RBI for the
week came with two outs, hitting 6-for-9 with two away for the
weekend. Homered in all five games.
Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week
Mike Adams, Franklin Pierce (Jr., SP, Orchard Park, N.Y.) - Earned
All-Tournament team honors at the NCAA Division II Northeast
Regional. Helped lead the Ravens to their third-straight regional
title as he collected two wins. Posted a 1.93 ERA over the two
starts, striking out 15 in 14 combined innings of work. Earned the
win with eight-plus strong innings in the deciding game 11 against
Bryant with ten strikeouts. Picked up the win in the opener against
C.W. Post, allowing just an earned run on three hits with five
strikeouts.
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week
Derek Ingui, Franklin Pierce (Fr., DH, Sterling, Mass.) - Helped
lead the Ravens to their third-straight NCAA Division II Northeast
Regional Championship as he hit .409 (9-for-22) with seven runs
scored, a double, triple, two home runs and five RBI. Slugged .818
and posted a .458 on-base percentage for the weekend. Was 3-for-5
with a triple, RBI and two runs scored in opening win over C.W.
Post. Batted 2-for-4 in win over Southern Connecticut. Was 3-for-5
with two homers, three runs scored and four RBI in win over
Caldwell.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Nick Campbell, Bryant (So., OF, Raynham, Mass.) - Went 10-for-27
(.370) this past weekend with five RBI and 11 runs scored, with two
doubles and a home run
Pat McKenna, Bryant (Jr., SS, Orange, Conn.) - Hit .423 (11-for-26)
with eight RBI and six runs scored in the NCAA Northeast Regional.
Hit a double and two home runs, including a three-run shot in the
first game of Monday's championship doubleheader versus Franklin
Pierce. Named to the All-Tournament Team.
Dave Muscatello, Bryant (Sr., 2B, Hopkinton, Mass.) - Hit .500
(11-for-22) with four RBI and four runs scored in six games the
NCAA Northeast Regional. Hit three doubles and was named to the
All-Tournament Team.
Pat O’Connor, Bryant (Jr., OF, Mattapoisett, Mass.) - Hit
.368 (7-for-19) with nine RBI and 11 runs scored in the NCAA
Regional Tournament. Hit a trio of home runs in the tournament,
including a three-run shot that gave Bryant the lead for good in
Game One of Monday's championship doubleheader versus Franklin
Pierce. Named to the All-Tournament Team.
Jeff Vigurs, Bryant (So., C, South Windor, Conn.) - Hit .304
(7-for-23) with four RBI, a pair of runs scored and a double in
NCAA Tournament action. Named to the All-Tournament Team.
Steve Carr, Franklin Pierce (Jr., 1B, Nahant, Mass.) - Earned
All-Tournament team honors at the NCAA II Northeast Regional
Championships, helping the Ravens claim their third-straight
regional championship. Hit .450 (9-for-20) with four runs scored,
two doubles, two home runs and six RBI for the weekend. Slugged
.850 and posted a .476 on-base percentage.
Brian Maloney, Franklin Pierce (So., SP, Brockton, Mass.) - Earned
All-Tournament team honors at the NCAA Division II Northeast
Regional, helping the Ravens capture their third-straight regional
championship. Allowed just an unearned run, while scattering five
singles over eight innings with eight strikeouts and just three
walks in Franklin Pierce's 7-3 victory over Southern
Connecticut.
Kevin Rivers, Franklin Pierce (So., OF, Bristol, Conn.) - Earned
All-Tournament team honors at the NCAA II Northeast Regional,
helping lead the Ravens to their third-straight regional
championship. Hit .478 (11-for-23) with seven runs scored, a
double, four home runs and ten RBI over the five games. Slugged
1.043 and posted a .458 on-base percentage with a stolen base. Was
2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in opening win
over C.W. Post. Hit 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in win
over Caldwell. Batted 3-for-6 with a home run, two runs scored and
two RBI in first game against Bryant. Finished 3-for-4 with a
double, home run, two runs scored and three RBI in deciding win
over Bryant.
Scott Savastano, Franklin Pierce (Jr., SS, Plymouth, Mass.) -
Earned All-Tournament team honors at the NCAA Division II Northeast
Regional, helping lead the Ravens to their third-straight regional
championship. Hit .450 (9-for-20) with ten runs scored, three
doubles, two home runs and six RBI for the weekend. Slugged .900
and posted a .542 on-base percentage. Homered in last three games
played, including a three-run shot in the sixth inning of game two
of the championship round that broke a 1-1 deadlock.
Weekly Notes:
BRYANT: Bryant finished its 2008 season with a
43-21 overall record after falling to Franklin Pierce in the NCAA
Regional finals. The Bulldogs' 43 wins set a new program wins
record, previously held by the 2004 World Series team. Sophomore
closer Eric Polvani set a new single-season saves record with his
13th save of the season in Bryant's 12-10 win in Game One Monday.
Senior tri-captain Jason Alexander notched his 200th career hit
during the tournament, also becoming the program's all-time leader
in starts and game appearances. Senior ace Eric Loh also set a new
career mark, eclipsing the previous career innings pitched
record.
FRANKLIN PIERCE: Franklin Pierce captured its
third-straight NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Championship
over the weekend. The regional title is the fourth overall for the
Ravens who have reached the Division II Baseball Championships in
2003, 2006, 2007 and now 2008. Franklin Pierce hit .486 (36-for-74)
in the regional with two outs, totaling 37 two-out RBI over its
five games. The Ravens smacked 19 home runs over their five games,
including a program-record matching six each in wins over LIU-C.W.
Post and Caldwell. Sophomore right fielder Kevin Rivers has belted
eight of his nine home runs this season in the postseason with four
each in the NE-10 and NCAA Tournaments. Junior Mike Adams set a
program record with his 11th win of the season on Monday. He was
named Daktronics Northeast Region Pitcher of the Year last week.
