Le Moyne Wins First-Ever NE-10 Golf Championship

South Hadley, Mass. – Le Moyne College claimed the 2008 Northeast-10 Conference Men’s Golf Championship after shooting a two-day total 599 at the Orchards Golf Course in South Hadley, Mass. This marks the first time in school history that the Dolphins have won the NE-10 title.

Le Moyne was led by freshman Kevin Jackson (Chittenango, N.Y.) who finished the two-day event with a low score of 144 (69-75) becoming the first freshman in ten years to win medallist honors. It just so happens the last golfer to do so was Neil Reidy of Le Moyne back in 1998. In addition, Jackson was also honored as the conference’s Gordon McCullough Player of the Year as well as Freshman of the Year.

American International’s Garrett Beyor (Monson, Mass.) finished second in the championship after recording a total score of 145 (70-75), which was followed closely by the University of Massachusetts Lowell’s Brendan Livingston (Westfield, Mass.) who shot a 146. Livingston led the championship at the conclusion of round win with a low score of 67. Matt Horton (Troy, N.Y.) picked up a fourth place individual finish for the College of Saint Rose after recording a two-day score of 147.

Le Moyne’s Tim Martins (Cortland, N.Y.), Saint Anselm College’s Chris Tarallo (Easton, Mass.) and Saint Michael’s College’s Will Crall (Pittsfield, Mass.) round out the top five individuals in a three-way tie with a score of 149.

UMass Lowell as a team finished in second place with a total score of 611 as the River Hawks closely edged out Saint Anselm College by one stroke. Assumption College followed in fourth place with a score of 614, while American International College and Southern New Hampshire University tied for fifth place with a score of 616.

The remaining team finishes is as follows with Saint Rose finishing in seventh place (623) followed by Bentley College and Saint Michael’s in a tie for eighth with a score of 631. Pace University finished tenth after shooting 639, while the University of New Haven and Franklin Pierce University finished with scores of 657 and 661 respectively.

With 15 member institutions the Northeast-10 is the second largest NCAA Division II athletic conference in the nation. Its 23 championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500 student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II conference.
