SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Bryant landed four golfers among the top six to hold off Bentley by four strokes for its 18th Northeast-10 Conference golf championship. The Bulldogs teamed for a two-day total of 585. Southern New Hampshire's Jeff Sullivan (Bedford, N.H./Manchester West) shot a four-under 67 on Sunday to capture the top individual spot.
Sullivan was the only golfer under par in either round at the 6,213 yard, par 71 Drumlins East Course. He combined the final round 67 with a 75 on the opening day to hold off first-round leader Dan Falcucci (71-74-145) and Le Moyne's Dan McCarthy (74-71-145). McCarthy (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) earned Northeast-10 Conference Freshman of the Year honors as the top freshman finisher. Sullivan, Falcucci, McCarthy, Bentley's Jay Gargiulo (74-72-146) and Bryant's Dave Falcucci (73-73-146) were named to the NE-10 first team.
Bryant's Craig Chapman (73-74-147) and Jim O'Connell (72-75-147) joined Pace's Steve Shapiro (74-73-147), Bentley's Chris Bates (76-72-148) and Kyle Richards (72-76-148) and Le Moyne's Jim Vardaro (75-73-148) on the NE-10 second team.
Bryant (289-296-585), an 18-time conference champion, last won the NE-10 team title in 2000. Bentley (299-290-589) shot the top team round of the day. The Falcons carved six strokes off Bryant's 10-stroke round one lead. Le Moyne captured third place, followed by two-time defending champion Southern N.H., Pace, Saint Rose, Saint Michael's, Assumption, Saint Anselm, Franklin Pierce and American International.
