South Easton, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire University
sophomore forward Troy Maybury (South Portland,
Maine) was named the 2008-2009 Northeast-10 Ice
Hockey Player of the Year as voted by the conference’s head
coaches.
Maybury is the second Southern New Hampshire player to receive
Player of the Year honors while a member of the Northeast-10. Pat
Doherty earned the honors during the 2004-2005 season. Maybury
helped lead the Penmen to a second-seed berth in the upcoming
Northeast-10 Championships. Southern New Hampshire received a
first-round bye and host a semifinal game on Wednesday, March 4. He
ranks second overall among conference leaders in scoring with 32
points. Maybury currently leads the NE-10 with 19 goals and is
tenth in assists with 13. The sophomore also leads the conference
with seven power play goals. In addition, he was earned First Team
All-Northeast-10 honors for the first time in his career.
Saint Michael’s senior goaltender Tyler Bilton
(Penticton, British Columbia) was voted the 2008-2009
Northeast-10 Goaltender of the Year. Bilton either leads or is in
the top three in goalie statistical categories among the conference
leaders. He ranks first in goals against average (3.49) and in
saves (687), while ranking second in save percentage (.914). Bilton
was also named to the All-Northeast-10 First Team.
The post-season accolades continued for the Purple Knights as
Bilton’s teammate Matt Rigtrup (Upper Montclair,
N.J.) was named the 2008-2009 Defensive Player of the
Year. Rigtrup ranks among the conference defensive scoring leaders
with 15 points (2 G, 13 A). He has helped Saint Michael’s
hold opponents to 4.20 goals per game and a team penalty kill
percentage of 77.3. In addition, Rigtrup was named to the
All-Northeast-10 First Team.
Assumption College freshman forward Taylor Larsen
(Blackstone, Mass.) was voted the 2008-2009
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year. Larsen is the first Assumption
player to earn the award. In his first year of collegiate action,
Larsen is currently ranked the conference leaders in scoring with
11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points. He was also named to the
All-Rookie team.
Saint Anselm College head coachEd Seney
was selected the 2008-2009 Northeast-10 Coach of the Year in a vote
by his peers. Seney guided the Hawks to a perfect 5-0-0 record in
NE-10 play to secure the top seed and first round bye in the
upcoming Northeast-10 Championships. Saint Anselm will host a
semifinal game on Wednesday, March 4. This is the second time in
his career that Seney earned the award. The first coming in the
2003-2004 season.
With 15 member institutions the Northeast-10 is the second largest
NCAA Division II athletic conference in the nation. Its 23
championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500
student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II
conference.
