Top Four Seeds Advance in Northeast-10 Men's Soccer Championship

The top four seeds in the 2008 Northeast-10 Men's Soccer Championship field have advanced to Wednesday's semifinal contests. Top seed UMass Lowell will host #4 Le Moyne, while #2 Southern New Hampshire hosts #3 Franklin Pierce. Both contests are scheduled for 5 p.m.

#1 UMass Lowell 4, #8 Bentley 1

Bentley's Jimmy Alexander scored the games first goal midway through the first half to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.  However, UMass Lowell responded with a game-tying goal at the 31st minute from Jeffery Danso.  With the game tied 1-1 with 35 seconds remaining in the half, Danso struck again with a header off a cross pass from Jose Esteves to give the River Hawks a 2-1 halftime lead.  UMass Lowell would tack on two more goals in the second half both coming from Jamie Wangia to secure the 4-1 victory.  River Hawk's goalkeeper Ryan Richards made four saves in net.

#4 Le Moyne 2, #5 Merrimack (Le Moyne Advances 4-3 PKs)

Merrimack jumped out to an early first half lead when Merrimack's Wayne Sygrove scored off a free kick at 7:56.  The Warrior's lead didn't last long as Le Moyne's Angelo Reina scored off a break-away punt from goalkeeper Steve White to tie the game at 1-1.  The game remained tied entering halftime, however that wouldn't last for long.  Merrimack's Eric Gomes scored off a rebound assist by Sygrove at the 47th minute.  Again, the Warrior's lead didn't last as Le Moyne's Brice Rudat tied the game at 2-2 at the 73rd minute.  The game remained tied throughout the remaining of regulation and two ten-minute overtime periods resulting in a penalty kick shootout.  The Dolphins would outlast the Warriors 4-3 in kicks and were declared the match winners.

#2 Southern New Hampshire 1, #7 Assumption 0

After playing a scoreless first-half, Southern New Hampshire finally broke the ice scoring the games first goal at the 57th minute in the second half.  Paulson Edum scored off an assist from Adrian Schippers to put the Penmen up 1-0 and eventual win.  Southern New Hampshire outshot Assumption 11-6.  Penmen goalkeeper Sean Lambert posted his ninth shutout of the year without recording a save or facing a shot on goal.  Assumption's Brandon Sullivan recorded four saves in net.

#3 Franklin Pierce 2, #6 Southern Connecticut 1 (OT)

Third seeded Franklin Pierce and sixth seeded Southern Connecticut played through a scoreless first half before the Owls scored the games first goal at the 54th minute of the second half.  Djordje Jankovic scored his second goal of the season off a cross pass from Ian Serrao.  The Owl's lead didn't last long as Franklin Pierce's Viktor Goncalves scored his 12th goal of the year off an assist from Tom Reilly at the 57th minute.  The game would remain tied as regulation expired, however in the first overtime period Frantz Francois scored the game-winning goal with under two-minutes remaining in overtime.  The Ravens outshot the Owls 17-4 and held a 9-1 advantag on corner kicks.  Southern Connecticut's Andrew Esposito made nine saves in net.
