North Easton, Mass. - James "Jim" Reddish, a three-year
letterwinner at Stonehill during the mid 1990's, who has spent the
last six seasons as an assistant coach with the Skyhawks, has been
named head coach of the men's soccer program it was announced today
by Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Brendan Sullivan.
"Jim's personal character, valuable knowledge, and passionate
desire to see the Stonehill student-athletes and Stonehill soccer
program collectively succeed made him the clear choice to lead the
program," said Sullivan.
Reddish takes over for Jose Gomes who stepped down in early May
after 19 seasons at Stonehill to take a full-time position within
the College's Recreation Sports Department.
The Skyhawks are coming off of a 5-11-2 season but return a bevy of
letterwinners including three of the top four scorers from a season
ago in juniors David Pohl (Weymouth, Mass.) and Shaun Keeley
(Woburn, Mass.) and sophomore Tyler Hebert (Rockland, Mass.).
"With his knowledge of the program as a student-athlete, an
alumnus, and most recently as an assistant coach, I am certain that
his leadership will propel this program to new heights in the
Northeast-10," said Sullivan.
Reddish has spent time at several universities, including
UMass-Amherst, where he was a graduate assistant in the Alumni
Relations Department, working closely with the football and men's
basketball programs.
Following his stay in Amherst, Reddish completed his master's
degree coursework in Boston College's Sports Marketing and External
Operations departments where he assisted in game promotions, event
management and website maintenance.
He also gained valuable game management experience working for the
New England Revolution (1996-97) and the 2001 Winter X Games.
In 2001, Reddish became a member of the National Soccer Coaches
Association of America (NSCAA) and received his National Coaching
Diploma from the Association.
From 1999-2000, Reddish served as interim Sports Information
Director at University of Massachusetts-Boston, overseeing the
publicity of all 18 Beacon varsity sports.
In addition to his time on the Stonehill sidelines, Reddish's other
coaching experience include stints at Millis High School, Westwood
High School, and the Skyhawks Soccer Camps.
A 1996 Stonehill graduate with a degree in Communications, Reddish
also holds a master's degree in sport management from
UMass-Amherst.
A native of Needham, Mass., Reddish and his wife Carrie, also a
Stonehill graduate (1997), reside in Dedham, with their three
children, Kathryn (5), Kyle (3) and newborn son, James.
