South Easton, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire University
junior forward Adrian Schippers (Ashby,
Mass.) was named the 2008 Northeast-10 Men’s
Soccer Player of the Year as voted by the conference’s 15
head coaches.
Schippers has helped lead Southern New Hampshire to its first-ever
Northeast-10 Regular Season Championship. The Penmen earned a share
of the title after finishing in a tie for first-place with the
University of Massachusetts Lowell with a 9-1-3 conference record.
Schippers is ranked among the conference leaders in a number of
offensive categories. He’s currently ranked fifth in points
(20), eighth in goals (8) and fourth in game-winning goals (3). In
addition, Schippers was named to the All Northeast-10 First-Team
for the first time in his collegiate career.
Southern New Hampshire senior goalkeeper Sean Lambert
(Rehoboth, Mass.) was selected as the Northeast-10
Goalkeeper of the Year. Lambert has helped the Penmen defense hold
opponents to only seven goals scored, the only team in the NE-10
not to allow double-digit goals this season. He currently leads the
conference in goals against average (0.40) and save percentage
(.854) as well as being ranked second among the Division II leaders
in those two categories. Lambert is also first in shutouts with
eight. In addition, he has been named to the All Northeast-10
First-Team for the first time in his collegiate career.
Franklin Pierce University senior Bisharra Ettienne
(Point Michel, Dominica) and Southern Connecticut
State University senior Ancil Farrier (Los Bajos,
Trinidad) have both been selected as the Northeast-10
Co-Defensive Players of the Year. This is the third straight year
that Ettienne has been named defensive player of the year. He has
been an essential part of the Franklin Pierce defense that has held
opponents to only 1.16 goals per game and has held seven teams
scoreless. Ettienne currently has two goals and one assist on the
year and has also been selected to the All Northeast-10 First-Team
for the fourth time.
Farrier helped lead the Southern Connecticut defense to seven
shutouts and has held opponents to 1.12 goals per game. He
currently has two goals and two assists for six points on the year.
In addition, Farrier has been named to the All Northeast-10
First-Team for the third straight year.
Franklin Pierce freshman forward Viktor Goncalves (Rio
de Janeiro, Brazil) has been selected the
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year. In just his first year at the
colligate level, Goncalves currently leads the conference in points
(27) and goals (11) and is fifth in assists with five. In addition,
he was also named to the All Northeast-10 First-Team as well as the
Northeast-10 All-Rookie Team.
Southern New Hampshire’s Marc
Hubbard was named the 2008 Coach of the Year in a
vote by his peers. Hubbard, in his first year coaching at Southern
New Hampshire has guided the Penmen to a share of the Northeast-10
Regular Season Championship. The Penmen were tagged the second seed
in this year’s championship and are currently 13-2-3
overall.
With 15 member institutions the Northeast-10 is the second largest
NCAA Division II athletic conference in the nation. Its 23
championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500
student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II
conference.
