Southern New Hampshire University junior forward
Adrian Schippers (Ashby, Mass.) and
Franklin Pierce University sophomore forward Angelika
Johannson (Falkenberg, Sweden) were named the
2008 Daktronics East Region Players of the Year.
Schippers, the 2008 Northeast-10 Player of the Year, has helped
lead Southern New Hampshire to its first-ever Northeast-10 Regular
Season Championship and the team's first Northeast-10 Championship
since 2002. The Penmen won their third NE-10 Championship with a
1-0 victory over Le Moyne College. A All-Northeast-10 First Team
selection, Schippers is ranked among the conference leaders in a
number of offensive categories. He’s currently ranked fourth
in points (22), ninth in goals (8) and fourth in game-winning goals
(3). In addition, Schippers was named to the All-East Region
Team.
Johansson, the 2008 Northeast-10 Women's Soccer Player of the
Year, has been an essential part of the Franklin Pierce offense
that has scored a conference-best 54 goals so far this season. She
currently leads the NE-10 in points (63), goals (29) and
game-winning goals (8) and is among the nation’s Division II
leaders in these categories. A two-time All Northeast-10 First Team
selection, Johannson was also named to the All-East Region
Team.
In addition to the Player of the Year accolades, the Northeast-10
had 25 combined student-athletes named to the men's and women's
soccer All-East Region teams. The teams are sponsorded by
Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing
and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every
level of competition. The team is voted on by members of the
College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA).
With 15 member institutions the Northeast-10 is the second largest
NCAA Division II athletic conference in the nation. Its 23
championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500
student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II
conference.
