South Easton, Mass. – For the third consecutive year, The College of Saint Rose's women's soccer team has advanced to the National Semifinals with a win against West Chester University earlier today. The Golden Knights defeated the Rams 3-1 in the penalty kick shootout after ending regulation and overtime tied at one apiece.
Top-ranked Saint Rose (24-0) will take on University of California-San Diego in the semifinals in Louisville, Ky., on Thursday, Dec. 4. UC-San Diego won the West Region with a win over St. Edward's (Texas) on Saturday.
West Chester, the host school, jumped out to an early lead as Devon Swaim tallied in the fifth minute for the Rams giving them an early 1-0 lead. Saint Rose would tie the game up just before halftime as Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year Amanda Deck scored the equalizer for the Golden Knights. The game would stay that way through the second half and the overtime periods.
Saint Rose's senior goalkeeper Deanna Esposito stopped the first two West Chester penalty kicks, and Saint Rose would score on their first two, en route to the 3-1 shootout win.
