TOWSON, MD – Senior back Kelly Guerin (Sutton, Mass./Sutton) and junior midfielder Christina Cuffari (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) have both been named to the 2010 first-team ESPN Academic All-America® Women’s Soccer College Division squad as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Guerin, who garnered third-team honors a year ago, is one of four repeat honorees and along with Cuffari, comprise one of just two sets of teammates who were selected to the first team.

A biology major who boasts a 3.92 GPA, Guerin has previously been honored as a Northeast-10 Conference first-team All-League pick and a Daktronics first-team All-East selection for the Golden Knights (23-0-0), who have been the nation’s top-ranked NCAA Division II team throughout the last three-fourths of the season. Guerin is a primary component of a Saint Rose defensive unit that has yielded only six goals all year, including one in the first half, and has shut out 11 of its last 13 opponents to lower its team collective goals-against-average to 0.26.

Cuffari, a business administration major, owns a 3.70 GPA and is the team’s leading scorer with 35 points on 10 goals and a school record 15 assists. One of only three players in school annals to record double digits in both goals and assists in a single-season, Cuffari joined Guerin on the first-team Daktronics All-East squad and was furthermore a second-team All-Conference pick.

To be eligible for the ESPN Academic All-America® Team, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at her current institution and be nominated by her sports information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
