MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior Southern New Hampshire University
women’s tennis standout Amber Chandronnait (Bow, N.H.)
appears in Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the
Crowd” segment in the October 26th issue that hits newsstands
Thursday. This week’s issue features the NBA preview on its
front cover.
Chandronnait becomes the eighth Penmen student-athlete to be
selected for inclusion in Faces in the Crowd. She joins former
women’s soccer players Heidi Schuberth (1984) and Heather
Swabowicz (1995), men’s lacrosse player Chuck Monturio
(1996), hockey players Rich Miller (2000) and Pat Doherty (2005),
golf standout Matt Arvanitis (2001) and men’s soccer player
Mounir Tajiou (2003).
Chandronnait was selected after capturing the singles title at the
Wilson/ITA East Regional in Philadelphia for the second straight
year last month. In the final, she defeated Ola Roberts of
Concordia (N.Y.) College 7-5, 7-5, rallying from a 5-1 deficit in
the second set. Last week, Chandronnait finished fifth in the
National Small College Championship in the Division II
women’s singles draw.
The 2008-09 Northeast-10 Player of the Year, Chandronnait is
unbeaten in dual match singles play in her Penmen career (17-0) and
owns a 30-2 overall singles mark since enrolling at SNHU. She spent
her first season at the University of Nebraska before transferring
to SNHU.
