South Easton, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire University secured the top seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Women’s Tennis Championship. The Penmen claimed their first-ever Northeast-10 Regular Season Title after finishing conference play with a perfect 13-0 record.
Stonehill College (15-2, 12-1 NE-10), last year’s
regular season and tournament champion, will be the second seed in
this year’s championship after concluding conference action
with a 12-1 record. Adelphi University (13-2, 11-2
NE-10) follows as the third seed, while Saint Michael’s
College (11-7, 10-3 NE-10) will be seeded fourth.
The top four seeds will host quarterfinal matches on Wednesday, April 21.
Quarterfinal matches include #8 Merrimack College (6-12, 6-7 NE-10) at #1 Southern New Hampshire, #7 Saint Anselm College (7-6, 7-6 NE-10) at #2 Stonehill College, #6 Le Moyne College (8-7, 8-5 NE-10) at #3 Adelphi and #5 Bentley University (10-8, 9-4 NE-10) at #4 Saint Michael’s. Quarterfinal matches are slated for a 2 p.m. start.
The semifinal round will be on Friday, April 23 with the
winner of Merrimack/Southern New Hampshire facing the winner of
Bentley/Saint Michael’s. The other semifinal matchup
will feature the winner of Saint Anselm/Stonehill versus the winner
of Le Moyne/Adelphi. Semifinal matches will take place at the
higher remaining seeds and are set for 2 p.m. starts.
The championship match will take place in conjunction with the
men’s tennis championship final on Sunday, April 25 at
Stonehill College. The men will kick-off the combined
championship final at 12 p.m. followed by the women’s tennis
championship final at 3:30 p.m.
With 16 member institutions the Northeast-10 shares the
distinction of being the largest Division II conference in the
country along with the PSAC and WVIAC. Its 23 championship sports
provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500 student-athletes, the
largest such program of any Division II conference.
