Four Northeast-10 Schools Receive Bids to NCAA  Women’s Tennis Championship

South Easton, Mass. – The Northeast-10 will have four teams represented at the 2010 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship that is set to begin on Thursday, May 6 with the preliminary round. There are 16 preliminary-round sites with the winner of each preliminary-round tournament advancing to the finals in Altamonte Springs, Fla., May 12-15.

The Northeast-10 will be represented by Adelphi University, Saint Michael's College, Southern New Hampshire University and Stonehill College.

Southern New Hampshire received the automatic qualifying bid after winning the Northeast-10 Championship last weekend. It marked the Penmen's first-ever championship in program history. Southern New Hampshire is making its second overall appearance in the NCAA championship after receiving it's first-ever bid last year.

The Penmen will face Adelphi in the first round of the East Region #2 tournament. The Panthers are qualifying for the NCAA Championship for the first time in program history. The winner of the first round match will face either fellow conference rival Saint Michael's or host and top seed Queens College. The Purple Knights are appearing in their third straight NCAA Championship.

In the East Region #1 tournament, Stonehill will serve as host and will face Goldey-Beacom College in the first round. The Skyhawks are making their second straight NCAA appearance and fifth overall in program history. The winner of this match will face the winner of the other first round match between Concordia College and Holy Family.

Stonehill advanced to the field of 16 last year after defeating Queens in a dramatic 5-4 victory.

With 16 member institutions the Northeast-10 shares the distinction of being the largest Division II conference in the country along with the PSAC and WVIAC. Its 23 championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500 student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II conference.
