Men?s Cross Country: Stonehill Captures NCAA Northeast Region Championship

BOSTON, MA (Nov. 6, 2005) Stonehill College placed five runners among the top 10 finishers to capture the NCAA Northeast Region Mens Cross Country Championship Sunday afternoon at Franklin Park.

Stonehill College compiled 30 points (3, 4, 5, 8, 10 12, 31), and ended UMLs five-year reign of the NCAA Northeast Region title. UMass Lowell placed second with 64 points (2, 11, 14, 17, 20 23, 28) while Bentley placed third with 96 points, edging Southern Connecticut (99).

C.W. Post placed fifth with 155 points, ahead of Merrimack (202), Saint Michaels (227), New Haven (231), Bryant (245) and Saint Rose (265).

For the second straight year, Stonehill and UMass Lowell both advance to the NCAA Championship Saturday, Nov. 19, in Pomona, CA.

Ryan Agnew of Bentley won the individual title and was named the NCAA Northeast Region runner of the year as he ran the 10K course in 31 minutes, 32.7 seconds. Agnew and Max Collado of C.W. Post, who placed sixth (31:54.4) each qualified for the NCAA Championship as the top individual finishers separate from Stonehill and UMass Lowell.

UMLs Patrick Morasse placed second in 31:43.7 while Stonehill owned third through fifth place behind Khalid Abdi (31:47.6), David Metzger (31:49.2) and Richard Gerry (31:53.5). T.J. Smith (32:02.7) and Joe Ryan (32:12.2) placed eighth and 10th, respectively, to round out Stonehills scorers.

The field was made up of 128 runners representing 20 colleges. The top 15 runners comprised the NCAA Northeast regional all-star team.
