Northeast-10 Weekly Notes:

BENTLEY: Bentley senior Ryan Agnew (Spencer, MA) closed out his collegiate cross country career by earning All-America honors for the second straight year, a distinction he garnered by finishing 17th in the NCAA Division II Championships. It was an improvement of 17 places over his 2004 performance. He's Bentley's second two-time All-America, following in the footsteps of Gary Mello (1998, 2000). This was the eighth straight year that Bentley has been represented at the NCAA championships.. UMass Lowell: The UMass Lowell women placed 17th in the NCAA Championship Saturday as junior Nicole Plante placed 28th to become the first female cross country All-American for the River Hawks. Behind Plante were three freshmen and a sophomore, including freshmen Emily Thomas (75th) and Christina DaLomba (104th); sophomore Amanda Sousa (109th) and freshman Sarah Merullo (134th). The women's finish was its best in three NCAA Championship appearances as the River Hawks placed 22nd the past two years. On the men's side, junior Steve Plouffe placed 72nd followed by senior Patrick Morasse (85th), freshmen Rex Radloff (90th) and Ruben Sanca (109th) and sophomore Brandon McKinnon (140th), who ran the entire 10K with one shoe after it was stepped on at the starting line. Two UML runners - Jason Beausoleil and Joey DeWitt - were unable to finish due to heat exhaustion. The NCAA Championship appearance was UML's fifth straight... Stonehill: The Skyhawk men matched their best team performance on Saturday at the 2005 NCAA Division II National Championships in Chino, Calif., as Stonehill finished 12th among 24 teams in the competition to match its placement from its inaugural national championship appearance in 2003. Sophomore David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) overcame temperatures in the upper 80's to place 24th individually and become the third All-America performer in Skyhawk men's history, joining former Skyhawk standouts Mario Fraioli and Sean McKeon, who earned the accolade in 2003 and 2004, respectively. Metzger's place was the highest for any Stonehill men's runner in three NCAA national championship races. The Skyhawk women made their sixth straight trip to the NCAA national championships and recorded their fifth top 20 finish in placing 19th among 24 teams competing in the event. Senior Erin Smith (Brockton, Mass.) led the way with a 58th place individual finish for Stonehill.
