South Easton, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference will host
its annual cross country championship this Saturday, October 25 on
the campus of Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vt. The
championship is set to begin at 10 a.m. with the women’s
five-kilometer race followed by the men’s eight-kilometer
race at 11 a.m. as 15 schools will be competing for this
year’s championship.
The University of Massachusetts Lowell and Stonehill College won a
share of the men’s team title last year, while the Stonehill
women earned their seventh team title in eight years.
On the women’s side, four of the top five finishers from
last year will be back and ready to compete for the individual
championship. Nicole Radzik, last year’s champion, has since
graduated which leaves the door wide open for this year’s
field. Bentley University’s Melissa Nash
(Marshfield, Mass.) finished second last year with a
time of 18:40.9 just ahead of Stonehill’s
Kristina Coriaty (Brockton, Mass.) at
18:46.6. UMass Lowell’s Christina DaLomba
(Marstons Mill, Mass.) and Lyra Clark
(Nashua, N.H.), last year’s top freshman
finisher, each finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Last year UMass Lowell’s Stephen DeWitt clocked in with the
top men’s time claiming the individual title with a time of
25:07.1. DeWitt has since graduated, which leaves the men’s
title up for grabs this year. DeWitt’s teammate
Ruben Sanca (Boston, Mass.) finished
second last year (25:21.7) and is currently coming off a
second-place performance at this year’s New England
Championships with a time of 24:36. Sanca is the only top-five
finisher from last year that will compete in this year’s
championship.
Stonehill’s Kevin Gill (Brockton,
Mass.), last year’s top freshman finisher, will
also compete and vie for the individual championship along with Le
Moyne’s Jake McAndrew (Oswego,
N.Y.) who finished eighth and Southern
Connecticut’s Joseph Poulsen (Oxford,
Conn.) who followed with a ninth place finish a year
ago.
