DAY ONE RESULTS

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - At the conclusion of Day One of the 2013 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the Southern Connecticut State University men and Stonehill College women sit in first place in their respective championship fields.

So. Connecticut owns a comfortable 29-point lead in the men's standings. In the women's field, Stonehill (52 points) is narrowly ahead of the University of Massachusetts Lowell (49 points) and American Int'l (46).

Five Northeast-10 records fell on Friday, including both the men's and women's 4x800 relays.

The So. Connecticut men set a new 4x800 mark with a time of 7:31.81, nearly 13 seconds faster than the previous record. The Owls foursome included senior Chris Babcock, junior Logan Sharpe, junior Brian Nill and senior Selasi Lumax.

The UMass Lowell women set the new mark in the women's 4x800 with a time of 9:13.23, retiring the previous record of 9:24.99, which was set by Stonehill last year. The foursome was made up of junior Karie Judge, senior Kelly Walton, freshman Hannah Daly and sophomore Antoinette Toussaint

In the men's long jump, University of New Haven senior David Thomas recorded a leap of 7.64 meters, shattering oth the Northeast-10 and John G. Hoyt Track & Field Complex facility records. He also met NCAA automatic qualifying standards in the event, vaulting into the second seed in all of Division II in the long jump.

In the women's 1,500 meters, Bentley University senior Caitlin Fahey set the new conference mark with a time of 4:32.17, besting the previous time of 4:33.97, which was set by teammate Amy Varsell at last year's championship. The senior Varsell finished second to Fahey on Friday with a time of 4:32.98.

Stonehill sophomore Bryan Wilcox set the new Northeast-10 benchmark in the men's 10,000 meters, finishing in 32:08.89. The performance bested the time of 32:11.93 set by Adelphi's Connor Dolan last year.

In the women's heptathlon, American Int'l junior Jenna Miller has 2,491 points. Franklin Pierce University freshman Vinny Biunno is in first in the men's decathlon with 3,454 points.
