Twice as Nice: Adelphi Men's and Women's Lacrosse Teams Repeat as NE-10 Champions

The Adelphi men's and women's lacrosse teams each claimed Northeast-10 Conference titles Sunday afternoon, with the men knocking off Le Moyne in Syracuse, and the women also defeating Le Moyne in Garden City, N.Y.

Syracuse, N.Y. – For the second straight season, an overtime winner was the key to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship for the Adelphi men's lacrosse team as Connor Duddy gave the Panthers a 12-11 victory at Le Moyne.

Tied at 11 entering the overtime period, both teams had their opportunities to end the game with a sudden death goal. However, after DJ Mauro's second save of the session, Nick Susko found Duddy with 21 seconds remaining to give the Brown and Gold a second straight NE-10 Championship crown.

Salvatore Tuttle finished with a game-high five goals with five others adding two points each. John English finished 14-for-25 from the faceoff circle towards six groundballs. Ralph Faiella caused two turnovers and picked up five groundballs.

Tuttle scored all three goals for the Panthers in the opening period, including the game's first a little more than three minutes in. The Dolphins put together two separate 2-0 runs in the quarter, with Joe Corapi netting a strike in each spurt. Tuttle cut the 4-2 deficit to 4-3 for the Brown and Gold with 10 seconds left on his third of the game.

The goal from Tuttle to end the quarter helped start a 4-0 run that carried into the second period. Jamie McAndrewTim Daly, and Duddy all scored within the first two minutes of the second quarter to give Adelphi a 6-4 run.

Another 2-0 run from Le Moyne, including Corapi's third, tied the score again at 6-6. Another quick response though from Daly afforded Adelphi a 7-6 advantage. After Matt Taylor tied the game for Le Moyne with a minute left, Tuttle again struck before time expired to give Adelphi a 8-7 lead with three seconds left and go into halftime with the advantage.

Tuttle scored his goals on eight shots while Daly added his two on three attempts.

WOMEN'S: #1 Adelphi 14, #2 Le Moyne 5 | BOX SCORE

Garden City, N.Y. - In a game in which they never trailed, top-seeded Adelphi captured the program's fifth Northeast-10 Conference Championship title over second-seeded Le Moyne, 14-5 on Sunday afternoon on Motamed Field. 

The Panthers (18-1) scored the first six goals of the contest en route to the victory and were helped out on the day by a game-high four goals by Alexa FroccaroRachel O'Brien chipped in three for Adelphi, while Emily KeeslingFelicia Mills and Danielle Jaycox all scored twice. 

Ryley Weber, the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, joined Froccaro and Mills on the All-Tournament team won five draw controls and caused one turnover to anchor the defensive effort. Le Moyne (17-3) got three goals on the afternoon from Maggie Monnat, who joined teammate Kayla Szczesniak on the All-Tournament Team.

O'Brien's first goal of the day came courtesy of an unassisted shot just 1:11 into the game, and the Brown and Gold never looked back from there. The Panthers' six-goal scoring run over the first 15 minutes also featured scoring from Froccaro, Mills and Jaycox, while Froccaro and O'Brien went back-to-back to secure the 6-0 lead. 

Le Moyne got on the board with 8:25 to play courtesy of Monnat's first goal of the day, before reigning NE-10 Player of the Year Erica Geremia got her name on the scoresheet to close the gap to 6-2 with 3:41 remaining. However, Froccaro's third goal of the half wistemmed the momentum, as she fired a pass from Rachel Aitkens into the back of the net to put Adelphi up 7-2 at halftime. 

Froccaro, Mills, Weber, Monnat and Szczesniak were all rewarded for their play with a spot on the All-Tournament team, and they were joined there by Ashley Armstrong of Stonehill and Alyssa Gianotti of New Haven.
