South Easton, Mass. – A total of 23 athletes from the
Northeast-10 have qualified for the NCAA Division II Swimming &
Diving championships, which will be held in Houston, Texas as part
of the Division II Winter National Championship Festival. Hundreds
of swimmers and divers across Division II will hit the pool
starting Wednesday, March 11 at the University of Houston in search
of a national championship.
Southern Connecticut State University leads the NE-10 with 18
swimmers and divers (9 men and 9 women) that qualified for the
national championship. Junior Cody Hall (Parker, Colo.) highlights
a list of Southern Connecticut swimmers and will be competing in
seven individual events, including a couple of relays. Hall is
seeded first in the 500-yard freestyle event.
Bentley University sophomore Anne Kaduboski (Dedham,
Mass.) is the first Bentley swimmer to compete at the
national championship and will be participating in three events,
including the 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle and the
200-yard butterfly. The College of Saint Rose will be represented
by two freshmen at this year’s national championship.
Ryan Brauer (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and
Vadim Yafeyev (Albany, N.Y.) qualified
for the 400-yard IM and have also earned a combined nine
‘B’ cut qualifying times.
Le Moyne College will be sending two athletes to nationals as
well. Freshman Katie O’Donnell (Delmar,
N.Y.) and senior Ricky Chidsey
(Liverpool, N.Y.) will represent the Dolphins as both
athletes will be competing in three events each. O’Donnell
will swim in the 200-yard IM, 100 and 200-yard backstroke, while
Chidsey will compete in the 50 and 200-yard freestyle and the
200-yard backstroke.
On the diving side of the championship the Northeast-10 will have
three athletes competing, including the NE-10 Championships diving
MVP’s Amanda Burden (Orange, Conn.)
from Southern Connecticut and Bentley’s Jon
Andrews (Southbury, Conn.). Also competing is
Southern Connecticut sophomore Greg Simoneau (Sandy
Hook, Conn.).
With 15 member institutions the Northeast-10 is the second largest
NCAA Division II athletic conference in the nation. Its 23
championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500
student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II
conference.
