Southern Connecticut's Amanda Thomas Wins National Title in the 200 IM / Finishes Second in 400 IM

San Antonio, Texas - Sophomore Amanda Thomas of the Southern Connecticut State University women's swimming and diving team captured a National Championship in the 200 individual medley tonight at the Division II Championships in San Antonio, Texas. Thomas swam the 200 IM in a time of 2:00.88, which was just .32 seconds off the NCAA record.

Her time of 2:02.50 leading into the NCAA's was third in the country only behind Casey Hurrell-Zitelman of Incarnate Word (2:00.33) and Alex Henley of University of California San Diego (2:02.38).

Thomas also finished second in the 400 meter individual medley at the NCAA Division II Championships.  Her time of 4:15.59 set an NCAA record, however, she finished second to Incarnate Word's Casey Hurrell-Zitelman, who shattered the NCAA record in the event by almost two full seconds.
