Boston, Mass. - Southern Connecticut State University won both the men's and women's team championships in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships in Boston tonight on a night which saw 15 meet records fall at the Reggie Lewis Center.
For the So. Connecticut men, it's their ninth straight indoor conference championship, and it's the second consecutive title on the women's side.
Stonehill College's Corey Thomas claimed most valuable athlete honors on the men's side, while The University of New Haven's Shannon Gagne claimed the women's individual award.
Thomas won the 55 meter high hurdles in a meet record time of 7.48 seconds, and also took first place in the high jump as he cleared 7' 0.25".
Gagne, meanwhile, set meet marks in each event she competed in, in one of the more impressive performances in the history of the conference championships. Gagne established meet marks in the 55 meters (7.05 seconds), the 200 meters (24.26), 400 meters (55.63), and the long jump (6.02 meters).
The Northeast-10 is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that are committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,500 student-athletes. Each year, 4,500 of those student-athletes compete in Conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country.
