Northeast-10 Men's Track Athlete of the Week

Ramon Laboy, Southern Connecticut (Gr., Danbury, CT) - At the Penn Relays in the championship division of the steeplechase, registered a time of 9:10.04 to finish 13th. The time is a provisional NCAA qualifying mark and the seventh fastest time in Division II this season.

Northeast-10 Women's Track Athlete of the Week

Nicole Plante, UMass Lowell (Jr., North Adams, MA) - Placed fifth and automatically qualified for the NCAA Championship in her fourth distance event in the College Women's 5,000 Meters at the Penn Relays. Broke fourth school record in as many meets this season with a time of 16:38.07 (by 37 seconds) and was tops among Division II-III runners in the field.

Northeast-10 Men's Track Freshman of the Week

Ruben Sanca, UMass Lowell (Fr., Boston, MA) - At the Penn Relays, took third among Division II-III runners in the Olympic Development 5,000 Meters and 36th overall with a time of 15:19.61.

Northeast-10 Women's Track Freshman of the Week

Melissa Nash, Bentley (Fr., Marshfield, MA) - At the Brown Invitational, set an outdoor personal best of 18:47.81 while winning the 5,000 meters. Finished about 17 seconds in front of runner-up Kate Vaughan of Uconn.

Northeast-10 Men's Field Athlete of the Week

Chris Watson, Southern Connecticut (So., Manchester, CT) - Won the triple jump (46-9.5) and was second in the long jump with a personal best mark of 22 feet, two inches, at the Yale Springtime Invitational.

Northeast-10 Women's Field Athlete of the Week

Thatcha DaCosta, Southern Connecticut (Jr., Englewood, NJ) - At the Yale Springtime Invitational, won the triple jump with a NCAA Division II provisional mark of 40 feet, 4.75 inches. Also was a member of the winning 4x100-meter relay which had a time of 48.44 seconds.

Northeast-10 Men's Field Freshman of the Week

Marc Cooke, Saint Rose (Fr., Williston, VT) - Finished second in the triple jump (12.12 meters) and was third in the long jump (6.29 meters) at the Rensselaer Invitational.

Northeast-10 Women's Field Freshman of the Week

Rachel Martinich, Bryant (Fr., Fairfield, CT) - Placed ninth in the javelin throw at Sunday's Brown Springtime Invitational and set a new school record in the event in the process. Martinich finished the day with a best throw of 113 feet, 6 inches to pass the previous school mark by more than a foot.

Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll:

MEN:

Anthony Vitale, Bentley (Sr., Natick, MA) - Competing in his first-ever steeplechase, finished first in the event at the Brown Invitational, covering the course in 9:52.03. Finished 7.47 seconds ahead of runner-up Doug Coffed of Providence.

Hafiz Greigre, Bryant (So., Attleboro, MA) - Set a new school record in placing first in the men's 400 meter dash at the Brown Spring Invitational Sunday. Finished in a time of 48.26 seconds in a time that also meets New England Championship standards.

Brian Ford, Bryant (Fr., Tewksbury, MA) - Placed seventh in the men's 800 meters at Brown's Springtime Invitational, finishing in a new personal-best time of 1:59.42, passing his previous best mark by close to seven seconds.

Rob Schneider, Bryant (Jr., North Cornwall, CT) - Placed ninth in the men's pole vault at the Brown Springtime Invitational by clearing a height of 13 feet, 3.5 inches. The height is a new school record at Bryant.

Lawrence Aidoo, UMass Lowell (Sr., Providence, RI) - Won two events and placed second in a third at the Brown Springtime Invitational. Won the 100 meter dash and broke the school record in 10.86 seconds and the 200 meter dash in 22.07 seconds. Also ran a leg on UML's 4X100 meter relay team which placed second in 42.44 seconds.

Brandon Beloin, Stonehill (Jr., Danielson, CT) - Broke school record in winning 400 meter hurdles for Skyhawks at Brown Invitational with time of 54.88.

Dana Burbank, Stonehill (Jr., North Andover, MA) - Broke a pair of school records in the 110 high hurdles and 400 meter hurdles at the Brown Invitational. Won 110 HH in time of 15.24 and placed second in 400 hurdles with mark of 54.91.

Keith Gill, Stonehill (So., Brockton, MA) - Enhanced provisional qualifying time for the NCAA championships and qualified for the New England Championships with second place finish in 1,500 meters at Brown Invitational, posting school record time of 3:52.42 in event.

Rob Coates, Southern Connecticut (So., East Haven, CT) - Won the pole vault with a height of 14 feet, nine inches, at the Yale Springtime Invitational. Also placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.03 seconds).

Larry Johnson, Southern Connecticut (So., Greenwich, CT) - Won the 100-meter dash at the Yale Springtime Invitational with a time of 10.81 secords.

Collin Walsh, Southern Connecticut (So., Bethany, CT) - Won the 800-meter run at the Yale Springtime Invitational with a time of 1:55.28.

WOMEN:

Natasha Stevenson, Bryant (Jr., Haverhill, MA) - Placed sixth in the women's 200 meter dash Sunday at the Brown Springtime Invitational in a school record time of 25.79 seconds.

Julie Handy, UMass Lowell (Sr., Yorba Linda, CA) - Competed in two meets, the Penn Relays and the Brown Springtime Invitational: At Penn Friday, placed 20th in a field of 64 athletes, broke her own school record and posted the fourth-fastest time in Division II this season (60.32 second) in the 400 meter hurdles, which all but guarantees her a spot in the NCAA Championship. At Brown Sunday, ran a leg on UML's 4X100 meter relay team which placed first in 47.04, provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championship.

Toni-Marie Henry, UMass Lowell (Jr., Springfield, MA) - Competed in two meets, the Penn Relays and the Brown Springtime Invitational: Highlighted the week by winning two events, setting a school record and provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championship at the Brown Springtime Invitatonal. Captured the triple jump and broke her own school record for the third time this season with a distance of 40 feet, 1.5'' to enhance her NCAA qualifying position. Also ran a leg on UML's 4X100 meter relay team which placed first in 47.07 seconds and met the provisional standard for the NCAA Championship. At the Penn Relays Thursday, helped the 4X100 meter relay team place 40th among 78 teams and eighth among Division II-III teams with a time of 47.80. Also placed sixth among 35 entries (first among Division II-III athletes) in the triple jump at Penn with a leap of 39 feet even.

Gillian Mundry, UMass Lowell (So., Methuen, MA) - Qualified for the NCAA Championship in two events at the Brown Springtime Invitational. Ran a leg on UML's 4X100 meter relay team which took first in 47.04 seconds and placed fifth overall (first among Division II-III runners) in the 400 meter hurdles in 62.90 seconds.

Jen Kulzer, Saint Rose (Fr., Chatham, NY) - Was third in the 400 meter dash (1:05.02) and took ninth in the 800m run (2:35.80) at the Rensselaer Invitational on Saturday.

Randi Cuccaro, Southern Connecticut (Gr., Oxford, CT) - At the Yale Springtime Invitational, Cuccaro was second in the javelin with a toss of 41.33 meters.

Merline "Stacey" Egbert, Southern Connecticut (Jr., Danbury, CT) - At the Yale Springtime Invitational, was a member of the winning 4x100-meter relay team, which registered a time of 48.44 seconds. Also won the long jump at 18 feet, 11.25 inches.

Leanora Harper, Southern Connecticut (Jr., Trumbull, CT) - Placed second in the 400-meter dash at the Yale Springtime Invitational with a time of 59.11 seconds.

Dana DeIngenis, Stonehill (Jr., Cranston, RI) - Qualified provisionally for the NCAA championships with a third place time in 1,500 meters at the Brown Invitational, posting a mark of 4:38.51.

BENTLEY: During the Brown Invitational, Bentley athletes captured two events. Freshman Melissa Nash (Marshfield, Mass.) set an outdoor personal best while winning the 5,000 in 18:47.81, and senior Anthony Vitale (Natick, Mass.) won his first-ever steeplechase in 9:52.03… UMASS LOWELL: Junior Nicole Plante (North Adams, MA) highlighted a stellar week for UMass Lowell as she shattered her fourth school record in as many weeks and qualified for the NCAA Championship in her fourth event. Plante placed fifth at the Penn Relays in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:38.07, eclipsing her own school record by more than 37 seconds. Plante has automatically qualified for the NCAAs in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters and provisionally qualified in the 1,500 and 3,000 meters. Additionally, senior Julie Handy (Yorba Linda, CA) solidified qualification in the 400 meter hurdles at Penn with a school record 60.34 seconds Thursday, the fourth-fastest result in Division II thi year, and also provisionally qualified in the 4X100 meter relay Sunday at the Brown Springtime Invitational with a time of 47.04 seconds. Junior Toni-Marie Henry (Springfield, MA) also enjoyed a milestone week, highlighted by shattering the school record for the third time this season in the triple jump at Brown (40' 1.5''). Henry also placed sixth among 35 athletes in the triple jump at the Penn Relays Friday with a distance of 39' even. Sophomore Gillian Mundry (Methuen, MA), also part of UML's 4X100 team, became UML's second qualifier in the 400 meter hurdles at Brown as she ran the event in 62.90 seconds. On the men's side, highlighting the week was the 4X400 meter relay team, which provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship at the Penn Relays with a time of 3:13.11. Leading the way was junior Clint Cooper (Raynham, MA) and freshman Andrew Grange (Methuen, MA) along with seniors Diego Pinheiro (Ashland, MA) and John Drinkwater (Tewksbury, MA). Lawrence Aidoo broke the school record in the 100, in 10.86 seconds, AT THE brown Springtime Invitational… SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT: Men: Graduate student Ramon Laboy (Danbury, CT) registered the seventh fastest Division II time in the nation in the steeplechase (9:10.04), placing 13th in the championship division at the Penn Relays. The Owls had several winners at the Yale Springtime Invitational, led by sophomore Chris Watson (Manchester, Conn.). He won the triple jump (46-9.5) and had a personal best distance of 22 feet, two inches to place second in the long jump. Sophomore Rob Coates (East Haven, CT) won the pole vault at 14 feet, nine inches with teammate Tim Murray (Garrison, NY) second at 14 feet, 3.25 inches. Senior Ivan Schmidt (Bridgeport, CT) won the high jump (6-9) and senior Jeff Cretella (East Haven, CT) was second in the shot put (50-10). In the running events, sophomore Larry Johnson (Greenwich, CT) won the 100-meter dash in 10.8 seconds with teammate Donald Stevens (White Plains, NY) fourth in 11.09 seconds. Johnson was third (22.27) and Stevens fourth (22.59) in the 200-meter race. Sophomore Collin Walsh (Bethany, CT) won the 800-meter run in 1:55.28 and senior Quincy Jackson (Manchester, CT) was third in the 400-meter hurdles (55.99). Women: Junior Thatcha DaCosta (Englewood, N.J.) reached a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 12.31 meters in winning the triple jump at the Yale Springtime Invitational. Classmate Merlene "Stacey" Egbert (Danbury, CT) won the long jump with a mark of 5.77 meters and the two teamed with freshman Symone Wong (Laurelton, NY) and junior Stefanie Tremblay (Troy, NY) to win the 4x100-meter relay in 48.44 seconds. Sophomore Sasha Mathelier (Uniondale, NY) was third in the pole vault (11-0) and fifth in the hurdles (15.03) while sophomore Keisha Regular (Westport, CT) was third in the high jump (5-2). Junior Leanora Harper (Trumbull, CT) placed second in the 400 at 59.11 seconds with senior Melissa Keller (Brooklyn, NY) third in 60.00. Graduate student Randi Cuccaro (Oxford, CT) finished third in the javelin with a throw of 41.32 meters… STONEHILL: Four Stonehill records fell during competition on Sunday at the Brown Springtime Invitational, as juniors Brandon Beloin (Danielson, Conn.) and Dana Burbank (North Andover, Mass.) set the school mark in the 400 meter hurdles and finished 1-2 in the event. Sophomore Keith Gill (Brockton, Mass.) set a new Skyhawk mark with a second place performance in the 1,500 meters, while the men's 4 X 100 relay team of juniors Vinnie Williams (Springfield, Mass.) and Derek Hebert (Rockland, Mass.), along with sophomore Danny Richter (Bedford, Mass.) and freshman Torrey Price (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.), set a school record with a time of 42.18...On the women's side, junior Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.) returned to her home state and provisionally qualified for the NCAA championships in the 1,500 meters, posting a time of 4:38.51. Sophomores David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) and Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass.) competed at the prestigious Penn Relays on Thursday, with Metzger placing 27th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:08.28, third best among Division II competitors. Ryan finished 37th in the 10,000 meters with a time of 31:46.01 as one of six Division II entrants in the event.
