NE-10 Hall of Fame: Bentley’s Sandy Hoffman

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 21, 2016

MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Northeast-10 continued formally recognizing its Hall of Fame Class of 2016 on Thursday, honoring the three head coaches within the distinguished group this week. The final coach to be honored was former Bentley volleyball coach and assistant athletic director Sandy Hoffman.

In 32 years (1982-2013) as Bentley’s head coach, Hoffman amassed a record of 758-366, including 258-68 in regular season conference games before having to step aside in August of 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. She passed away on August 31, 2015 at the age of 57.

Hoffman led Bentley to 11 NE-10 regular season titles (9 outright, 2 shared), nine NE-10 tournament championships and 11 NCAA tournament berths. An eight-time NE-10 coach of the year, the award was named in her honor in 2013. Currently, she ranks sixth in NCAA Division II history with her 758 wins, and she was inducted into the American Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2014.

The newest members of the NE-10 Hall of Fame were honored at the conference’s annual banquet, which was held on June 6.

  • Bentley’s nine NE-10 titles under Hoffman are the most by any member school in conference history
  • Hoffman’s Falcons had a winning record in 28 of her last 31 seasons, reaching the 20-win plateau on 21 occasions in addition to six 30-win seasons
  • Bentley reached the NE-10 title match seven years in a row from 1985-1991 under Hoffman, taking the crown five times over that span
  • She joined with Bentley players past and present to raise awareness about adrenal cortical cancer with the Dig Lavender campaign, raising more than $20,000 for research at the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center
