SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Recent American International College graduate Nate Pereira tied for second at the 2013 U.S. Amateur Sectional Qualifier at the par-72 Crestview Country Club in Agawam, and in doing so qualified to compete at the U.S. Amateur Championship in August.

Pereira, a Ludlow, Mass. native, recorded two birdies and two bogies in the first round on his way to an even-par score of 72 before tallying four birdies with just one bogey for a three-under par second round score of 69. Four of his six birdies came on par-fives, including two on the 553-yard second hole.

Periera finished tied with Colin Brennan (70-71--141), an Andover native who graduated from Johnson and Wales University in North Miami, Florida in May. Both were two shots back of David Szewczul (71-68-139) of Farmington, Connecticut.

The 2013 U.S. Amateur Championship will take place August 12-18 at The Country Club in Brookline, which will feature two rounds of stroke play that will narrow the field to 64 match play competitors. The first three rounds of match play will be aired on the Golf Channel August 14-16, while the semifinal and championships matches will air on NBC August 17-18.
