Roosevelt, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team conducted a free clinic for the Roosevelt Middle School girls' basketball team on May 3.

Thanks to Roosevelt Head Coach Lauren Williams, the Panthers were able to use the facilities to work with the girls on their offensive and defensive skills, while placing an emphasis on communication, work ethic and teamwork.

Amanda Campusano, Adelphi's senior shooting guard, led the clinic. She placed the girls into groups of three or four and had them travel in stations that focused on shooting, dribbling and agility drills. She then guided the girls through full court drills such as the Three Man Weave, relays and rebounding drills.

When speaking to Campusano after the clinic, her first words were, "The minute we walked in, I felt the girls' electricity. I knew it was going to be a great experience."

The rest of the Adelphi squad split up throughout the stations to get the girls started. They focused on technique, speed and power as they guided the girls through each drill.

"I was very impressed with how the girls handled themselves and followed through on all the cues," said sophomore guard Shannon Flynn. "They made the experience worthwhile."

The clinic proved successful for both teams. The Panthers demonstrated their leadership to the young ladies by acting as mentors and guiding them throughout the clinic. The Roosevelt girls' basketball team walked away with a better understanding of what it takes to excel in basketball and took home drills they could do on their own time to elevate their level of play.

"The team really enjoyed the clinic Adelphi provided for the school," Williams said. "I can tell just by a few hours that the Adelphi's women's basketball team has a good rapport with not only each other but also the young athletes throughout the Long Island school districts."
