Rival Penmen, Skyhawks tie atop annual coaches' poll
SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Southern New
Hampshire University and Stonehill College both received 134 points
to tie for first in the annual Northeast-10 Conference
Women’s Tennis Coaches’ Preseason Poll, as voted upon
by the league’s head coaches.
So. New Hampshire (5-0, 4-0 NE-10) received seven first-place
tallies, while Stonehill (7-1, 5-0 NE-10) garnered four first-place
votes in the voting. The two programs matched up in last
spring’s Northeast-10 Championship, where Stonehill upset the
Penmen on their home court, before both earned NCAA Tournament
berths.
Merrimack College (5-1, 4-0 NE-10) finished third in the preseason
poll, receiving 112 points and a pair of first-place votes.
Adelphi University (2-1, 1-0 NE-10) was fourth with 109 points,
while Bentley University (4-0, 4-0 NE-10) and Saint Michael’s
College (2-0, 2-0 NE-10) were just off that pace with 100 and 92
points, respectively.
The University of New Haven (5-2, 3-2 NE-10) totaled 80 points to
come in at the seventh position, followed by Assumption College
(1-4, 1-2 NE-10) with 62 points and Le Moyne College (0-10, 0-7
NE-10) with 54 points.
Rounding out the poll was American International College (0-0, 0-0
NE-10) with 42 points, Saint Anselm College (0-3, 0-3 NE-10) with
39 points, Franklin Pierce University (1-6, 1-6 NE-10) with 38
points and The College of Saint Rose (0-7, 0-5 NE-10) with 18
points.
The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division
II colleges and universities located in New England and New York
that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic
opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year,
4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships
in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the
